If you go to http://wptry.it/try-geodirectory/places/israel/ you will have your location set to Israel.
Then go to http://wptry.it/try-geodirectory/ to see the whole globe. In the search box you can see two boxes, ‘Search for’ and ‘In: Israel (Country)’.
A user types nothing in the search for box (to see everything) and then types ‘USA’ in the location box. Click search: nothing is found.
Now, I am a site developer and I know that the reason for this is that my location is set to Israel, and that I need to click on the ‘location switcher’ to change that. But I only found that out through trial and error, and it took me a few minutes. To a user of the site they would probably just think ‘I typed USA but it still says Israel, this must be broken’.
It would be really great if there was a way to do one of the following:
1. Set a different location in the location field by typing it
2. Disable the ability to type in the location field (since what you type doesn’t appear to have any effect anyway). At least this way the behaviour will be predictable
3. Have the location switcher appear in this search box.
