I’ve ended up with about 40 categories in https://townapp.co.nz and it’s going to be a bit weird for a user on a phone in a location page if I can’t put them in some kind of order. is there a way to do this?

Have a look at the settings for the GD Categories element you added to the /location/ page.
For example, you can hide empty categories etc.

    Thanks

Thanks Guust but I’m not sure exactly what you mean. I’m hoping to be able to arrange the 40 or so categories on this page below the header section https://townapp.co.nz/location/ for example into an order which has them grouped by colour and alphabetical within that coloured group – is that possible?

Have a look at settings for the GD Categories element you used on that page, and you will see that you can order the categories alphabetically.
Ordering cannot be done by colour because the colour is something you assign yourself when creating the categories.
You possibly could change some categories to sub-categories if you like to group them.
    Thanks

I’ve got the sub-categories all sorted Guust – is there anyway I could reorder it so convenience and fashion sat up the top of the page in between bars & attractions?

You can only order them by “count” [categories with most listings first] or alphabetically.
    Thanks

Thanks – and does that only apply to categories and not subcategories?

Applies to both. But sub-categories will be ordered under the parent, in the same way the parents are ordered.
    Thanks
