I have updated the core snippets plugin and it broke the site, got the HTTP ERROR 500 message.
so I deleted the plugin from cpanel, reuploaded it, the same happened. any idea how to use code snippets again?

well that is not exactly what I have experienced. it did break the site but I was able to get into cpanel and simply remove the plugin. so I did that and reuploaded the plugin from dev. but the same happened and now cannot see how to use code snippet plugin again.

    regards

    Hi George,

Could you check out the error logs? https://codex.wordpress.org/Debugging_in_WordPress#WP_DEBUG_LOG . It could be something else causing this.

    Thanks!

i did consult with the hosting support, an it turned out that the firs crash was caused by :

I have checked the error log of your application and I have found that the reason for the reported issue is your wp-super-cache plugin. Here is the log from the server:

    and the second:

As for your second reported issue, I have looked at the error log of your application it apears that currently, your code-snippets plugin is the reason for the experienced issue. Here is the log in question:

should I try to upload a different code snippet plugin?

    Hello,

You can try the solution that the plugin offers here:

    https://wordpress.org/support/topic/what-to-do-if-a-snippet-breaks-your-site/

Let us know how it goes

I added the line define(‘CODE_SNIPPETS_SAFE_MODE’, true); to wp-config.php and now I get this every time I activate the snippet:

Warning: Safe mode is active and snippets will not execute! Remove the CODE_SNIPPETS_SAFE_MODE constant from wp-config.php to turn off safe mode.

    Hello again,

yes, that is the expected behavior.

Now you can remove snippets from the site. Remove the one that was causing the issue and you should be good to go.

Glad you got your site back up!

    🙂

I did so, it is working now, but instead of the original “powered by wordpress” it shows:

© 2018 Supreme Theme LLC. All Rights Reserved.

and there is no option for custom text

go that one right… just edited the snippet,
    btw, got some other qs:

if there is a paid listing where it is important to be in the first few rows on front page, I found that if someone posts a listings, and later edits it, and in the meantime other listings had been posted, by editing the listing it can jump in the front of the page, like it was a new listing.- interesting

also, is there a way to change the color of the square backgrounds of categories and add listings blocks on the front page. this grey is very ugly, it would be much better to have something like the popular categories’ dark transparent backgrounds in the front page?

    regards

    Hello George,

1# Glad to hear you got code snippets working again

2# Glad to hear your footer is working again

3# The Home/Location and Listing/Category pages can both use the GD Popular Post View Widget. The GD Popular Post View Widget has a filter for “Featured Only” to exclude other listings.

4# Not sure I’m getting this:

Please provide a URL so we can see the issue.

its not an issue, really, I was just wondering how can i change the color of the pop ups in the main menu’s ‘categories’ and ‘add listing’ buttons? I can change the colors but not to transparent, and I think the dark transparent buttons look really cool as in the ‘popular categories’ case in the front page header.

I understand what you are saying about the popular categories widget, but when I tested the front page and I set to appear featured listings only in the front page, and you add a featured listing its the ‘latest first’ rule right? that is that the listing added latest comes in the first position. so if my listing is like 5th in the featured listings list, and I edit it (not relist it) , after editing it will go to the first position again.

    regards

    Hello George,

Please send us a URL so we can see the page you are talking about.

For widgets “Latest” includes updates, yes.
