Although I’m not running a multi-language site, I do prefer the use of correct (en_GB) English, rather than the Americanised version of GD that we all now have to suffer 🙂

I’m also trying to tidy up some of the other phrases used in GD to better suit my purpose.

However, I’m finding that I can’t make translations stick. I have the edited en_GB .mo file in wp-content/languages. but it makes no difference. I even tried putting it in /wp-content/languages/plugins again with no change.

Once I put the file in wp-content/languages, I know WP can see the file, as it then shows the language chooser in Settings > General.

    All help appreciated

    Paul

Hello, are your files named geodirectory-en_GB and not only en_GB?
    The path is correct ( wp-content/languages/geodirectory/ ).

    Here the documentation

Is your wp-config.php set to en_GB?
Are you using some cache plugin? (if so, purge the cache)

No cache plugin, wp-config tried with define(‘WPLANG’, ‘en_GB’); both included and not, as it’s supposed to be deprecated in WP4?

    Hi Guys,

I’ve just tested translatation on 2 test website on different servers, both with latest everything and it worked as expected.

Can you please provide FTP and wp admin credentials?

The only thing that comes to my mind is a problem in the edited mo file.

    Let me know,

    Thx

    Hi Stiofan

Sorry for the delay, I try not to work weekends 😉

I tried again, and it still didn’t work, so I downloaded a fresh copy of the GD package, uploaded the core language .po, edited it in poedit and uploaded the .mo to wp-content/languages/geodirectory.

That time, it worked perfectly. It seems either there was an issue with the original .po I had, or at least with the .mo that was being created from it by poedit.

Whatever it was, it’s fine now 🙂

This is one area where Joomla outshines WP. Why someone ever thought language files should be compiled is a mystery I’ll never figure out.
