    Greetings,
I can see plenty of problems with CSV and have reviewed several, trying to learn and fix easy snags. This is my first import.

I have manually added a point, then exported it, opened as UTF-8 in Libre, added one character to the existing Description cell contents, and attempted to re-import. Error is:

1 / 1 item(s) could not be added due to blank/invalid address(city, region, country, latitude, longitude).

I set a default location early on, and am using the OSM API

My data is all based on lat/lon……no street addresses are relevant. City is barely relevant. (developer note: I wish I could separate these two concepts…one for an address field and the other for the geography, thus allowing for situations where only lat/lon is relevant)

Attached is the export/import test file.

Any clues what I should be doing next?
    Thanks!

Post Address is blank; it is a required field. It does not have to be accurate, but it must have a value.

Address data can be hidden with CSS on the frontend.

    Howdy Alex,
Thanks very much for the fast reply.
Just to point out a couple of things:
    1. I set that field to be *not required* in the GD configurations
    2. Clearly GD allowed me to save that one sample record *without* a post_address: what you see in the *recycle.csv file above is exactly what was exported from GD
    3. What is a minimum value for the field? Can I just enter a full-stop . ?

    1. this has been fixed and V2, such that it cannot be set as optional.
    2. I would say that is a bug, and we can check on it if you like.
    3. One character should be enough, though a space character won’t work. I was able to import with an underscore.

Thanks Alex, I got through with a period.

Two expansions of the thread please…though happy to start new topics if you like:

    1. When I ran the import just now, I changed some of the “city” values to our neighbouring City. So, in this case, the “default location” is (Mount Molloy), and I set the city value to (Julatten).

All of these records failed to import. Why? Why would “default” be equivalent to “only”? What is the anticipated logic here…ie, how can I be required to set a default location, and then not be allowed to enter any other location?

    2. Re your comment in (1), forcing an address value, Is there some special reason why the concept of “address” has to be married to “location”?

I have not yet read all of GD features yet…are you supporting lines and polygons, or points only? There are many points and directory concepts that don’t have a clear “address”. I would have thought it much better to keep them independent.

    1. Did you enable multilocations? Default means only in the context of the multilocations settings, as in ‘enable default location’ as opposed to enable multicity.
    2. GeoDirectory takes this on as “Listings have a location, or they don’t” meaning they have complete address plus lat/lon, or they have none of it. There is a setting in General settings to disable address for a specific CPT. A huge number of the features valued by members are related to the aim of a ‘business directory’, and that means these large background tasks done by the plugin to automatically create pages/links/text/breadcrumbs etc based on the location and taxonomy data. That is the core aim of the plugin, as opposed to a general mapping utility.

Hey there Alex, thanks for the explanations…you’re a patient man.
Ok, so I’m trying to get either:
    – No default location; or
    – Enable “multilocations”
Now I realise I need to download an add-on. I have a full subscription…but checking out My Account/Downloads: there is nothing called “multilocations”.

    What am I missing now?

It is the Location Manager addon you are looking for, and it adds the ‘Multilocations’ settings tab to the GD settings panel.
