Hi, on themetailors you are selling location csv, how can I import those using the plugin? Thx, nvoi
June 17, 2014 at 12:25 pm #4501The plugin is ready for CSV import:
WP admin > GD > General > CSV file uploadOr do I misunderstand you?
June 17, 2014 at 1:38 pm #4517Yeah, you do 😉
The issue is that there is no consistency in the terms used in the plugin and the terms do not necessarily make sense… Places should be listings, e.g. like the sample csv file is called place_listing.csv…
What I want to do is add locations (just like I wrote above. So we do not misunderstand each other, that’s done here: http://domain.com/wp-admin/admin.php?page=geodirectory&tab=managelocation_fields&subtab=geodir_location_addedit). Here, Paolo/Nomad Devs is offering CSV’s with locations through an affiliate: http://kevintodler.themetailors.com/tt/portfolio/geotheme-us-states-counties-and-city-data-in-csv-format/
I want to use such a file to upload locations for my own install.
June 17, 2014 at 5:40 pm #4547CSV on theme tailors are for GeoTheme. Not for GeoDirectory.
Currently there is no need to import anything in the location database…
thx
June 18, 2014 at 2:10 am #4609I think by taking the time to open this thread I showed that at least I do have that need 😉 If the need existed in GT, chances are, it will be there in GD.
Please let me know the table or columns the locations are stored in and I will add directly into the database.
June 18, 2014 at 2:24 am #4610Not sure why you need to pre-add the locations? They are added automatically whenever a new listing is created?
June 19, 2014 at 9:37 am #5008it creates content, even though not very strong content.
I have done the same with another theme and it ranked me for that niche right on the top, without any actual content.
June 25, 2014 at 11:03 am #6104Hello everyone,
I have just recently created a world state cities sql dump file which is ready to be imported in to your locations database table.
It is exactly created according to Geodirectory requirements.
It has 246 countries, 3799 regions and 137528 cities of the world.
cities have been chosen based on 1000+ limit population.Locations Sql Dump file is for sale on themetailors.com but it is yet to be approved by moderators.
Don’t want to wait then please mail me at email removed. I may give attractive discounts to my first 10 customers.
None of the sources on internet can compete my data because they are much costlier and almost useless. You will end up wasting your $300 to $600 for no results.
June 26, 2014 at 1:02 pm #6252Hi Kevin,
The point of Geodirectory is that locations are added as needed by users, maybe some people might like this but personally i don’t see the point.
Importing places with new locations will also add the new locations.
Please explain what advantages, this will provide?
Thanks,
Stiofan
June 30, 2014 at 11:31 am #6791Hi Stiofan,
I agree that it is not necessary to add locations in advance as locations will get added when a listing is added by user. But looking at interface it is quite difficult to predict whether an end user will add a non existing city. It may be easy for novice user but not for an end user. Because I personally found it difficult to add the city.
Also there are many similar cities but they belong to different states and country. So these cities may be deleted by merge city option (I do not know how you designed merge city option and what parameters it considers while merging duplicate cities.)
In order to tackle such problems I have added a country initials to every cityname in list to identify similar cities from different countries. For example Delhi may be a city in USA and India
Also Albany is city in california and Oregon states of USA.
So identifying the exact city among duplicates from search function on the homepage is quite difficult for end user. Also this will not be great user experience. When starting a directory from scratch, it advisable to have at least some predefined locations so that spam users will not add any spam locations when they do not find any locations. Because deleting a spam listing will only delete listing but not spam locations added to locations database by spam user.
Ultimately it will be time consuming process to identify and check the authenticity of the locations added to the database and deleting spam locations.World knows how spammers use all techniques to get their listing added to the database. When a directory is only meant for US only but still spammers will add locations from other country or locations not even existing in US.
There are many other reasons, where people do not like end user to add locations.
I have a dump data of yellowpages which is nothing but filled with spam.
So I do not think people would like to waste their precious time in managing spam.June 30, 2014 at 12:06 pm #6792Hi,
In admin back end u have options to manage locations. Just go to Multilocation > Manage locations, here u can edit/delete locations and with first tab u can make few location manager relates settings, like u can disable which field u dont want user to enter any value. Please advise ?
July 3, 2014 at 3:35 am #7322It seems that there are many issues with location manager.
I just recently uploaded 30,000 US state cities and the site turned out to be the most slowest.
Location manager plugin consumes 90% memory of all the plugins combined. When I try to access all cities in homepage, it starts to behave abnormal and throws “browser not responding” error.
My whole browser gets hanged for about 4 to 5 seconds.
It seems like Geotheme was better at handling 30000 cities without causing loading issues.I hope you will resolve this error at the earliest.

I had a look at your settings to do some groundwork for Vikas.
I changed your Multilocation setting to default country, rather than picking one country out of the multicountry list. Probably does not matter, but just was trying to find causes.
I also added a category and a listing, to see whether that sorts things out. No real change.
I do notice however, that none of your cities are in the expected format, they all have 2 additional letters referring to the relevant state. Not sure that matters.
I am not sure, but it does not look like you have a default location. Again I do not know whether that matters, but I am just adding it here for Vikas’ benefit.
Not sure what sort of hosting you are on either. This is the error I get after a while: This script grinds to a halt /wp-includes/js/jquery/jquery.js?ver=1.11.0:3
Vikas, over to you, if this needs further investigating.
August 14, 2014 at 10:45 pm #12108I was directed to this thread by Guust and I like the way GD enables users add locations on demand.
My questions is should we be concerned about speed and performance once we accumulate a very large number of locations?
