Deleted Places from Category, but still showing

    I deleted many places from the Gardens & Parks Category within Places. However when you go to the list of this category they are still showing.

    If you look at the individual place, they are correctly not showing as being in this category.

    However, if you go to one of the locations and select the Gardens & Parks Category, the places that were removed from this category have are (correctly) no longer showing.

    Some thing strange is definitely going on as Kyoto is showing more Japanese Gardens than Gardens and Parks even though Japanese Gardens is a sub category of Gardens and Parks.

    I have since run “Sync GD Categories” and “Location category counts”, but there has been no change.

    Hi Cherry blossom is a sub-category of the garden parks category.

    you must remove the sub-category too.

    All listings must be in their parent and sub-category, they can’t be only in the sub-category.

    Hi Paolo, “Cherry Blossom” has nothing to do with it.

    I am not sure I explained this problem correctly.

    There is one issue, but it is showing up in two different ways.

    1st
    Nijo Castle isn’t showing as being in either “Gardens & Parks” or sub category “Japanese Gardens”.
    This is how it should be.

    If you look at the page for “Gardens & Parks” for Kyoto, Nijo Castle is not showing.
    This is how it should be.

    However, if you look at Gardens & Parks for the whole country, Nijo Castle is showing.
    This is NOT how it should be.

    2nd
    “Japanese Garden” is a sub-category of “Gardens and Parks”.
    Therefore “Japanese Garden” can only have equal to or less than the number of places in “Gardens and Parks”.
    However if you look at the “Attractions Categories” widget on the Kyoto page, it is showing “Japanese Garden (19)” and “Gardens and Parks (14)”.
    This is NOT possible.
    This is showing a sub-category as having more places than its parent category.

    Hi,

    I think I understood correctly.

    The Nijo Castle listing is assigned to Cherry Blossom, which is a sub-category of Gardens and Parks that was removed. This is NOT GOOD. A listing assigned to a sub-category must be assigned to the parent category too.

    Either you remove it from Cherry Blossom too or you it add back correctly with both Parent and Sub-category.

    The system will not work correctly unless you use it this way. Please correct all listings that have a sub-category assigned without its parent category (the Japanese Garden problem is the same…) and let us know if all other problems went away.

    Cherry Blossom has nothing to do with it.

    Look at Gardens & Parks for the whole country, Nijo Castle is showing.

    Look at the detail listing for Nijo Castle
    Yet Nijo Castle is not in the Gardens & Parks category.
    How can it be showing in the Gardens & Parks page for the whole country?

    NOTE: Cherry Blossom is NOT a sub-category of Gardens & Parks.

    It seems the index table for Gardens & Parks at the country level has not been updated.

    Hi Craig,

    Cherry Blossom IS a sub-category of Gardens and Parks (see image attached).

    Same problem with Japanese Garden.

    Currently Nijo Castle is assigned to Cherry Blossom but not Gardens and Parks.

    A listing CANNOT be assigned to a sub-category without being assigned to the parent category too and you have few listings assigned to sub-categories only without the parent category.

    If Nijo Castle is assigned to Cherry Blossom, it MUST be assigned to Gardens and Parks too. If you don’t want to assign it to Gardens and Parks, you MUST remove Cherry Blossom too.

    Once you fixed every listings that have this problem, run this utility from GD Tools: Location category counts.

    After that, everything will work as expected.
