I’m trying to place amazon links in the description of a listing. It just doesn’t work, either it removes the HTML or it just shows the HTML instead of displaying the content (from Amazon).

As an amazon affiliate, when I add a listing for someone and they have a product on amazon it really would be advantageous if this was possible so I could potentially add another source of revenue for my work. Somehow a while back I was able to make it work with this listing: https://veganlinked.com/services/united-states/maryland/baltimore/louis-eagle-warrior/ but it was hard to do, trial and error, and I don’t even recall what I did. Now, on a new listing, I can’t get anything to work (anything being any of the various ways amazon offers html and trying of course to place it into the “text” view of the description).

I tried creating a new HTML field and that didn’t work either.

Here’s an example of the html:

    Hi Jeff,

The GD solution for adding product links is to give the visitor a URL field where they can place a link to the product. The description field is for text or basic markup, and shortcodes and other complex code are disabled specifically to prevent site users from breaking the site with malicious or poorly formed code.

Kor is pointing out that you do have an example of how to make it work on hand, so I am not sure what it is you are asking us for. Is there some particular Amazon code that you would like to support on your site? If so, paste it here and we can try to point you in the right direction.

    Hello Alex,

The code I pasted above is the standard Amazon code. This is nice because it allows the user to put in code from Amazon and display the image to the product and even text with the image. This makes for a nice way to promote a product and amazon is huge. Ideally we would be able to utilize amazon in some way. I suppose this could turn into a feature update because most of their images seem to be the same size for the most part. So, it could be cool to have a tab for amazon products. But, event the “HTML” field doesn’t allow for the HTML. If you look at the original post it has a nice image that is linked to the product using HTML and it’s an affiliate link so if someone purchases that I make a little. It displays perfectly here but it doesn’t work on the site when I paste it into the description, at least from the front end. I don’t recall exactly how I made that one listing work, it was a while back. And, I may have done that from the backend somehow or something. But, ideally it would be easy, copy and paste, and wahlah it works.

If it’s a security vulnerability then isn’t it one here as well, yet it works here. And, the couldn’t the video field be exploited?

Using a link field could work I suppose, but it would be hard to make it really work. Because it would just be an amazon link, it wouldn’t be titled or clear as to what the link is to and this would have to be explained somewhere away from the link, so that doesn’t really work. Amazon does offer a simple link option, which is what I’m using for the one listing, but that’s just not very ideal. However, it’s probably fine enough to just suggest listers add a link in their description and not use the html…

With customizations it is possible to open up all kinds of opportunities for your site visitors as you see fit. Basic iframes are allowed by the editor but shortcodes are not.
