Hi! I have a hard time wrapping my head around the exact differences between the Loops and the Listings widgets.

I understand that the Listings widget is not capable of displaying a post query on an Archive page. For that I need the Loop widget.

But: Do the Listings and the Loop widget return any different results?

    My question is the following:

What is the benefit/necessity using an Archive page for a certain CPT, when I can just create a static page with a Listings widget for that CPT?

The way WP works, there are ‘special pages’ for each Custom Post Type and each category and each tag. And the search. All those pages have a ‘loop’ that is filtered and drops listings on the page. GD Loop just sets the layout.

GD Listings is an ‘ad hoc query engine’ that can be used to list out listings anywhere, any time, in lots of ways.

GD Listings will NOT do a Loop query. That is the advantage of auto-updating loop pages. You CAN do something similar with GD Listings, but, then, you wouldn’t have GD Loop Actions, either.

Ok, so my take away message is: GD Listings and GD Loop provide very similar results, but GD Listings doesn’t auto-update and isn’t responsive to the Loop Actions widget.

    Thanks for the clarification!
