Directory on two different pages

    Hi – hope you can help with this.

    I’ve got a site where I need to have a directory of services for elderly people. There are two different types (categories) of service: social clubs and care homes. My client wants to have the directory searchable and showing social clubs on one page, and searchable and showing care homes on a different page. Is this possible?

    They don’t need to be different directories as such I guess but the directory on the social club page needs to only return results that are in the social club category, and the care home page needs to only return results that are in the care home category.

    How would I accomplish this?

    Hello,

    do you already have your site setup?

    You will need tomake a customization to achieve that, probably.

    I would recommend you checkout this thread for a snippet to hide a CPT from the CPT dropdown in the searchbar.

    Though you are using categories, moving into two CPTs would keep the two separate an ensure that they don’t mix on any given location or other page.

    Yes, I’ve already got the site set up. The directory functionality is a new thing for the site.

    Thanks for the link to the thread – that looks useful. I note that thread was at the end of 2016 and that the moderator indicated that it would be incorporated in the next release. So is there a setting relating to that in the current release, or do I simply use the code snippets as outlined on that thread?

    Then presumably I’d simply use your shortcodes to display the Directory with a different CPT on a different page?

    With custom post types, the listings will be easy.

    social clubs and care homes

    slug – social-clubs – mysite.com/social-clubs (lists all social clubs)
    slug – care-homes – myite.com/care-home (lists all care homes)

    That is the way GD is setup to work automatically.

    Once you get that setup, see what else you are missing and write back and let us know how we can help.
