display only top categories on listing page using CPT > Categories widget

    i’d like to have at the top of almost all pages a list of just the top categores

    i know the Popular Posts Categories widget will display the subcats too

    but i tried the CPT > Categories widget too and it looks like if that is on a listing top category result that also contains subcategories that it only displays the name of that one top category and any subcategories of that one top category

    in other words, the full list of top categories is not displayed on listing pages

    is there anyway to have a list of top categories that i can display throughout the site?
