Easy way to customize the theme?

    hi
    I’d like to make this index page to be look like this one by boxes design, margin, colors etc (CSS).
    and also make this page to use the same DIV’s as this one.

    I’ve tried playing with the THEME COMPATABILITY SETTINGS but it feels I should go deeper. Tried also switching between the different packs supplied with GD.
    i’m not a developer but can play with some HTML and CSS if needed.
