I renamed my places cpt to “vendors”. You use terms like “places, listings, locations” all interchangeable. confusing!
But worse – how do I edit a “place”? The back end editor only has a few fields, how do i edit address, video, hours, etc?
November 13, 2018 at 4:37 pm #453986Hello,
You can add as many Custom Fields as you like. See this doc for more info:
https://wpgeodirectory.com/docs/core-place-settings/#customNovember 13, 2018 at 4:50 pm #453991No, I mean how do you edit the listing?
Where is the edit form?
How do you edit the address field for a listing? The backend editor won’t allow this.
November 13, 2018 at 5:03 pm #453997You should be able to edit listings both from the front end and from the back end.
How did you renamed your places cpt to “vendors”?
PLease provide a link and admin credentials in a private reply and we’ll have a look at your settings.
Thanks
November 13, 2018 at 6:28 pm #454026I only renamed the label.
What link do I use to edit a place from the front end? I tried adding a shortcode to a page, similar to the add-listing code except edit-listing. Still doesn’t work.
November 13, 2018 at 6:30 pm #454027The edit link button that should be visible in each listing if you are the author.
Do you want us to have a look at your website?
November 13, 2018 at 7:10 pm #454031my site is growtogive.com. I am still trying to figure out navigation. There are no edit links showing.

Finally figured out how to show the edit link.
1. It wont accept the address entered when clicking on add to map.
2. It also keeps claiming i need to add an address in current city.
a. I was
b. This is not how I want my directory. I want a current city to be the default view, not the limited area of my directory.
3. Where does one find the pretty map icons that are in your demo? All I have are the ugly red pens or i need to find my own? The pretty ones are nowhere to be used? One day it will be absolutely cool to get in the plugin what is advertised, without having to hire an expert or spend a week configering, griping, looking for support, etc. Never fails.
4. I do not want to allow users to add more than one location unless they pay, yet it defaults to this. I am hoping and expecting your pay module will fix this?
5. How do I change the colors of the add/edit form. It’s all white on white, does not look good. Css? Here again, constant little settings and coding. Please stop advertising how simple and out of the box things are, not even close.
6. What or hoops do I need to jump through in order to show ALL FIELDS in the post? Not on the sidebar, in the post itself. Address, and other fields. I’m sure there is some shortcode buried somewhere.
7. Your 17 min “settings” video, please turn up the volume.
8. Make a video showing how to do all this other stuff, not one showing the basics.
9. Nowhere have i yet to see distance or how far anything is from anything. Where do I dig to fetch this?
10. Not one spot in your documentation does it show how to edit a listing, location, place, or whatever we feel like calling it today. not one place is there any shortcode for adding the edit link. What if I don’t want a sidebar? Where do I dig and fetch code for a link to edit my own listing, location, place? Thanks
November 15, 2018 at 6:24 pm #454435Hello,
We are working hard on the V2 docs. I thank you in advance for your feedback about improving them.
Did you run the setup wizard, available from the Help tab at the top of any GD settings page?
We can take a closer look if you include WP admin credentials in a private reply, only the team will be able to read them.
V2 docs are here: https://wpgeodirectory.com/docs-v2/
There is a video here: https://wpgeodirectory.com/docs-v2/geodirectory/getting-started/
Icons? https://wpgeodirectory.com/docs/faqs/where-can-i-find-map-markers/
Fields on the listing page (Detail Page): https://wpgeodirectory.com/docs-v2/geodirectory/places/tabs/
I do not want to allow users to add more than one location unless they pay, yet it defaults to this. I am hoping and expecting your pay module will fix this?
GD listings are sold one at a time at a per listing price with the Pricing Manager Addon, and GD doesn’t have a feature for limiting how many listings a given user can create. Some membership plugins may get you close to what you want, something like S2 Members.
change the colors of the add/edit form
GD is a plugin, not a builder or theme, and so GD pages and listings inherit the vast majority of styles from the theme. You can use page options or a builder to design your pages and place GD shortcodes on the page. Let us know if you run into any issues with that.
see distance
Enable the advanced search addon, and then do a search that has a value in the near field. Search results will be sorted by distance.
What if I don’t want a sidebar?
Sidebars are part of the theme, or added by a plugin. Some themes have options on the WP Pages to choose a template which may or may not include a sidebar.
https://wpgeodirectory.com/docs-v2/geodirectory/page-design/#page-template
There is a lot of information here or linked from here about arranging the directory layout options:
https://wpgeodirectory.com/docs-v2/geodirectory/page-design/#output
If you run into more issues just let us know and we will try to help.
November 15, 2018 at 9:28 pm #454477Thanks,
Why am I having issues adding an address to the map?
Why am I limited to current city for adding listings?
How can I used the edit listing link if I do not want an author sidebar? Is there a shortcode for this?November 15, 2018 at 9:39 pm #4544841 and 2 because the free plugin only allows to submit listings in 1 city (the default location). There is a premium add-on called the Location Manager that removes that limitation.
3 there is no shortcode. You can add it via PHP with this function:
geodir_edit_post_link
Thanks
