I just ran this update and all the events I had running are now moved into the “Past” Events rather the “Upcoming” as they should since they have time left before they expire. To view these on the frontend now users have to switch to the “Past Events” to see. Is there a quick way to bring these back into the “Upcoming” view or do I need to recreate all my events? I have to tell you, every time I see an update from Geodirectory I cringe a bit and wonder how it’s going to mess up my site.

    Hi Daniel,

are the event dates in the past? Can you show an example with a link in a private reply?

    Thanks

    Hello,

such is the way our events system works that events that are on or past the start date/time are considered past.

That doesn’t work for your case, where each event is 30/60/90 days long.

I would recommend instead that the listing itself expires 30/60/90 days from publish. In that way any published event would be ‘on’.

    Would that work for you?

    Thanks Alex,
I thought that is how I set the Event Packages up to automatically expire after the 30/60/90 days. I will take a closer look.
    Thanks!

Alex – In the Event Packages I have the “Package Lifetime” set to the 30/60 or 90 day – Is that different than “Expire”? If yes how can I have a package someone buys expire in the 30/60 or 90 window?

I looked at one of the Events that do not show up – it was built on 6/27 and has an “Expire Date” of 9/22. It shows as “Published” on the backend but does not show on the Frontend unless you choose the “Past” Events. Based on what you said it sounds like this event should be “on” since the expire date is set for 2 months away.

The package expire date is not the issue. I think you have that set correctly. I am just wondering if you need the event start date at all.

The problem in the case for your site is that events that are ON or PAST the START EVENT DATE/TIME are considered PAST.

I added emphasis for myself mostly make sure I was typing it clearly 🙂

I do need the start date. If someone buys a package today on 7/10 for a Sale they are having this weekend 7/13(Start Date) & 7/14(End Date) I want the Sale to appear on my site today so people can see that upcoming sale. Any suggestions for a work-around? Thanks!

I would think that geodirectory would use the “Expire Date” for the function of turning off an event rather than using “Start Date”. Using Start Date pretty much causes problems for all multi-day events if an update comes while an event is in progress,

Hi Alex – I changed the events to today start dates and they now show up but I don’t want to do this manual process in the future. I was wrong in earlier post suggesting to use “Expire Date” to turn off and Event – geodirectory should be using “End Date” rather than Start Date to turn an Event off. In my case I sell a package that someone can use multiple times in the 90 day period where they change Start Dates and End Dates maybe 2 or 3 times a month if they want to. That way it’s almost like a membership – which I know geodirectory doesn’t want to get into memberships. Anyhow if one of my customers is running a weeklong sale (Mon thru Sat) and we have an update on Wednesday – that sale will no longer appear on my site. Hope you guys consider reviewing! Thanks!

OK, I have flagged your topic for the developers to see if they can think of a workaround for you.

Good morning, I appreciate you flagging it but I think you need a different color flag on this. With a new set of updates just today the same exact thing happened to all the events I have on my site. Most have end dates a few weeks from now but after running the update they again do not appear on the front end under “Upcoming” – they do not even appear under “today”. I think this is a pretty simple fix with a couple of if statements relating to Start Date and End Date. I look forward to hearing when this issue will be resolved.
    Thanks! Dan
