Do you have a recommended solution for external media library hosting? I’m needing a total off load of media to an as yet, undetermined, external host, not just for performance purposes.
I am migrating a legacy app to a self hosted wordpress site using your theme. I have approx 25,000 plus images and approx 48,000 listings to import.
I am hosting the Word Press site with a Digital Ocean droplet but there is no way I am going to allow 25,000+ images to exist in the same server. So I need an external host with HTTPS support for the media library as this will take care of future image hosting for my customers, as well as for the initial import.
At this time I haven’t chosen the external host. I am looking at DropBox, Amazon S3, Flickr to name a few but before I choose I need to prove the concept.
To achieve this I have looked at various CDN solutions for Word Press but none seem appropriate as most seem to either
1) “mirror” the media library resulting in images still existing on the main server or
2) Want to transfer the whole domain by taking over the DNS records which is also totally not what I want.
After extensive researching I found the w3 Total Cache plugin seems to have the functionality I need, allowing me to set FTP credentials and host details, it looks like it allows me to totally offload all my media to an external host in a flexible way but after further research it seems that the w3 total cache plugin has clashes with your booster plugin which we are using to great effect.
So, I need to know if you can recommend a plugin or a way to change word press to store and load media library content that is compatible with GeoDirectory?
April 27, 2016 at 4:49 am #171736Just worked out that you don’t use the media library but the question remains similar. How to store images on a different host? This is a storage issue not a caching issue although caching is also important
Thanks
April 27, 2016 at 4:01 pm #180074Hi Paul,
at the moment there is no ready made solution for this. We’ll probably need to build an add-on or extend GD Booster to allow something similar.
I know Stiofan started looking into integrating a CDN solution to GD Booster, but I don’t know how much has been done already.
I’ve flag this for him so that he can update us, however I also need to inform you that this is not at the top of our priorities at the moment. The VAT system and extending the WP REST API with our endpoints have been requested by many more members, reason why we consider them more urgent.
Thanks for your patience,

April 28, 2016 at 1:42 pm #181080Hi Paul,

April 28, 2016 at 2:02 pm #181148I have seen in other threads that I could possibly change some code tyo make this work, could you at least give me some pointers?
April 28, 2016 at 2:14 pm #181155Have you decided on a solution? If so does it do a like for like url such as /2016/04/image.jpg? It might be possible to just strip replace any media urls from the page out put.

April 29, 2016 at 8:21 am #181641Hhmm! Now that’s a thought any suggestions as to how that might be done? Maybe adjust the wp_get_attachment_image_url through a filter or hook?
A Javascript solution feels a a little too flakey. If I can get this working I’ll let you know how I get on
