There is a now closed forum topic about changing the ‘Featured Map Marker’. I think I can tolerate spending time hacking it myself, but that is considerably less than ideal. I think it would be a great feature if this was easier in Geodirectory. like an option in the dashboard or something. Actually, it would be great if it was easier to change the markers in general instead of the limited options now available in the map design. The original forum post was from 2016. Have there been any updates on this topic?
June 7, 2017 at 4:41 am #382029Hi Kathy,
Map markers are inserted manually in the listing categories. Check out this screenshot http://prntscr.com/fgtru9
Thanks!
June 7, 2017 at 3:58 pm #382131I understand the process completely, but my question is, is there no way to set a global marker for “featured” like there is for custom post types? In my understanding there are two ways to load markers, one in the listing category and another to set the marker for the post type in the map default settings under “upload default marker”. However, “featured” is not a post type, nor is it a category.
So, when I make a listing in either Places, Events, or one of our two custom post types, I have the Default Map Settings where I can set the default post type and “Upload map default marker icon” for each post type, or I can add one individually to each category. However, “Featured” listings are a listing type, not a post type or a category. I see that the maps have a default marker set for “Featured” and it would be great to set a default, otherwise I will be combing through thousands of listings when I want to switch an listing from “default” to “featured”. I attached the icon screenshot as a sample to my original forum post above, and again to this post.
So again, my question, is there no way to set a default marker for “featured” so that we can stay in line with our brand without hacking the system? If not, it would be a great add to the Geodirectory interface to be able to easily change the “featured” marker. It seems odd to be able to easily make markers for our post types and categories to match the branding on our site, but the “featured” marker remains the one that came with the system.
Unless I am missing something?
Make sense?
Thanks.
June 7, 2017 at 5:06 pm #382139My apologies, I attached the wrong screenshot. To be clear, I want to set a “featured” marker if this is possible?
June 7, 2017 at 5:14 pm #382142Hi,
markers can only be uploaded for categories.
The only way to do what you want to do is to create a featured category and make it the default category for each featured listing.
Thanks
June 7, 2017 at 6:51 pm #382188So then a featured listing marker will default to whatever category it is when the listing is created? Or will it default to the Maps default marker.
June 7, 2017 at 7:13 pm #382191I don’t understand your question, can you please clarify?
June 7, 2017 at 7:25 pm #382194We’re offering a free and a premium listing. One option for the premium that we are having is allowing the ad to be featured. We want the marker to be different for featured rather than the category marker. In my initial setup of the map, when a listing is featured, it has a different marker. We want to customize that. If it is not possible, then we want the featured marker to go to whatever the default is for the category. If that’s the way it works, then great, if not, we’d rather not have the marker for featured that comes with the map api.
Does that make sense?
June 7, 2017 at 7:31 pm #382197Bottom line: we want to change the ‘featured’ map marker, or use the category default marker for ‘featured’. The one that came with the API (or Geodirectory, I don’t know who created it) does not match our brand.
June 7, 2017 at 7:35 pm #382198We want to change this. See attached. To do that, you are saying we need a “Feature” category? If so, then in our pricing, when we say Yes to Feature when creating a listing, it defaults to the attached marker. We do not want that.
June 7, 2017 at 7:56 pm #382206In my initial setup of the map, when a listing is featured, it has a different marker.
This is not how it works, probably you were using a category without a marker for some featured listings. Listings only use their default category marker and there is no option to change that.
The only way you could do this is to create a category called featured with the marker that you want and add this category only for your the feature listings.
It’s not ideal, but that would be the only workaround I can think of.
Thanks
June 7, 2017 at 9:23 pm #382221Oddly, I was using Geodirectory’s demo material, well before I made any categories of my own, which is what lead me down this path in the first place. But that’s ok, I don’t want to waste any more time on this, I will just let it resolve to whatever the default is on my end and hope that I don’t have an ugly marker to deal with. Thanks.
BTW Did you see the original post by Jeff Tobler on Dec. 20, 2016 where he wanted to change the size of the marker?
Here’s the thread:
https://wpgeodirectory.com/support/topic/unique-featured-map-marker/
and Stiofan responded in post #327912
Admittedly Geodirectory did not have a solution for Jeff then yet either, but if you could potentially change the size, could you not actually change the marker itself?
and Jeff responded with exactly the same line of thinking that I had in post
#328446So, just wondering what if anything happened to all of this, or was it lost in the forum?
You can understand why I am asking this question now, right???
