It appears that the featured listing is showing in the my favorite places screen. I would expect this screen to only show the favorite places. Is there a way to fix this?

July 24, 2014 at 10:07 pm #9836I think you added it to your favourites by clicking on the Need to visit link, which is the renamed Favorite link.
If you rename Favorites to Need to Visit, then you should rename the Favorite category in a similar fashion.July 24, 2014 at 11:41 pm #9841No – I was looking at it before I made the change. I posted this then decided to make the change. I can revert it if you’d like. But one way to tell is if you aren’t logged in to the site, then it still shows the featured item there. But it should ask you to log in…
July 25, 2014 at 12:24 am #9844The page you are looking at is the page that shows the favorites of a particular user. It is available for all to see.
For example, this is my favorites

July 25, 2014 at 1:08 am #9847How come we can see someone else’s favorites? Shouldn’t we have to be logged in as a particular user to see that user’s favorites?
Or am I misunderstanding these links?
July 25, 2014 at 1:33 am #9849That’s a good question. I thought that link was for the logged in user’s favorite places – so they can keep track… If it shows all user’s favorites no matter what we may have a problem. hmmm
July 25, 2014 at 1:47 am #9850The idea is to show other users favorites and submissions, but only the user can edit their listings.
There is no link to this page unless you add it.Must have been inspired by Facebook for generation Share, but at least with GD you can choose not to provide a link to this page.
July 25, 2014 at 1:59 am #9852I don’t think so – I got this link from the login widget/dashboard where you click on the drop down for “my favorites” and select places. What link could I give people to show them their places? Showing a list of every place people like is weird – especially if there isn’t a count or ranking by number. Someone could go in and like every place then everyone would see it in their favorites section…
July 25, 2014 at 2:06 am #9855Surely the rating system is meant to indicate which sites we like for other people to see? I think of “Favorites” as bookmarks, but I’m not into Facebook 🙂
July 25, 2014 at 2:07 am #9856The link from the dashboard or the login widget will never go to another user’s dashboard, only to yours.
And even if I like everything, how would you get a link to that unless you are an admin?July 30, 2014 at 8:47 pm #10446Ok I found out why – the link that is created when you use the dashboard has the user’s display name built into it, it isn’t bring processed on the page. So I have it going to the admin page.
The question now is: Can we force it to look up the user somehow? Put some php script in the page to find user name and build the link? Or what would be the best way for this? Any thoughts?
Thanks,
Jack
July 30, 2014 at 9:11 pm #10451HI Jack, you are right, that is exactly what I have been trying to explain: other users will not have a link unless you give it to them.
You can show a link when a listing is verified, meaning the Business Owner is set to YES.
You will need the Claim Listing addon.
Once that is activated, go to GD > Listings Claim > and choose where you want to show the Author link. There are two options: add to detail page and/or add to listings page.July 31, 2014 at 5:39 pm #10550Hi Guust – I don’t think the Claim Listing add on is what I’m needing. I want to put a link in my menu bar that will take the user to their “Favorite” places – I don’t want to have them use the Dashboard Widget. Any way we can make this work?
Thanks,
Jack
July 31, 2014 at 9:27 pm #10576A user will need to log in before the system is able to know who they are, so you will need a login widget.
If you are using GDF (which you are) you can add the GDF> Welcome Login widget in the GD Header Right section.
The author page will need the GD > login widget; some users will have listings and/or favorites.
You can adjust the links in the GD > login at GD > design > navigation.August 1, 2014 at 3:08 pm #10659Hey Guust – I’ve played around with that before but still no luck.
I’m wanting to add a “My Favorites” link in my menu bar. Or some page that is a landing page for the individual user that shows what they like and haven’t liked – maybe even a list of reviews they’ve made.
I’ve added the login link to the header, but still doesn’t give the desired effect. I would want the page to say “Please Login to view this information” and have a login/sign up page. Does this make sense? As of right now there doesn’t seem to be a good one-stop shop for users…
Thanks,
Jack
