    Hi,

My goal is to create a “global” directory which contains multi-locations & events. I am reading that you can upload CSV files but where can I obtain these files? It would take me years to manually input cities, states, countries and events, places such as restaurants, etc. How can I upload this info? Are there files I can purchase? I’m trying to get my website launched but trying to add global info is holding me back.

    P.S. I am a premium user. I need help.

    Hi and welcome

The CSV sample file is at GD > general > CSV and you can read more here:http://docs.wpgeodirectory.com/core-general/#csv

You do not need to create any locations, your users will do that for you as they add their listings.

Have a play at the demo, and add a listing or two, you’ll soon figure it out: http://wpgeo.directory/

Feel free to shoot any questions once you had a go at the demo and looked at the docs at http://docs.wpgeodirectory.com/basic-installation/

    Hi,

Thanks for your response. Yeah, I’d have to generate alot of traffic on my website from all over the world to have a user input information on my website. I wanted to put the info up there to present to the users then they can add if needed.

I do know how to add a listing one at a time. I was inquiring as to if there was a bulk CSV file I can upload. I guess my expectations of the directory’s capabilities were different.

If you add locations without a listing in that location, you only create empty pages.
Do you mean you want business listings to copy? They are not available that I know off, at least not readily in the GD format.

Yes, I wanted bulk business listings to add because without it, it will be a long time before the site has enough global content. I have categories such as, restaurants, museums, spas, club, bars…etc. All those locations will have to be inputted one by one you’re saying?

Locations in the GD context are like cities and towns.
If you have all the data for business listings, you can add the data to the CSV spreadsheet and upload it like that.
GD is the directory software, and you add the data. Otherwise every site would be the same …

Yes, you need to curate the listing information yourself. Unless you want to pay for it, that is:

    http://exactdata.com/
    https://www.salesforce.com/data/pricing/
    http://www.experian.com/small-business/business-mailing-lists.jsp

This type of data requires massive amounts of work to curate. Either roll up your sleeves and get to work, or be ready to shell out some serious cash.
