Filtering Events Using Place Subcategories

Hi guys – I am setting up a listing of local events that will ideally be easy to filter. Three related questions:

1. Is it possible to filter events by the subcategories of the Places they are linked to? For example, a user is looking for “Happy Hour” (Event category) at a Brewery (Place category).

2. Is this possible using checkboxes on the homepage map? (Ideally the Events map has checkboxes for ‘Place category’)

3. How do I get the map results to display in a list under the map (so it would show ‘filter results’ instead of ‘popular places’)?
