Hello, Geodirectory –
I’m using the “Extra” theme from Elegant Themes. It’s similar to their Divi theme.
You guys helped me configure the theme compatibility back when I was first trying it out.
Now that I’m up and running, I want to see how it looks if I move some of my elements from the Right Column (where they are now) over to the Left Column (which I haven’t been using).
When I try that, however, the left column appears first on the page, with nothing next to it. Then the rest of the content appears further down, below all of the left content.
So I think there is a glitch in the Theme Compatibility Settings. Perhaps the left column is getting inserted too soon.
You can see the problem on my staging site (where I’ve moved the items to the left column) versus my current production site (where they are still in the right column)
Staging: <I will share this URL in a private follow-up post>
Production: https://skidawaytimes.com/directory/
You guys have an active login that should work, if you want to try to debug this.
Thanks

please provide credentials any time we need it. It’d be too time consuming to go back looking for them in old topics.
Thanks

Thanks for your reply. I’ve just checked your Website and I’m only able to see the issue on your staging site. Do you mean you want us to help you fix your staging site and not your production site?
Thanks
May 3, 2018 at 1:48 am #428866Yes, because it’s not working I didn’t want to introduce the display problems to my production site.
But if we can solve the problem in staging, then we can apply the same fix to production.
Then when I make the content changes in production, they will already be fixed.
So please try to fix it in staging. Then if you can reproduce the fix in production, that would be good. And maybe also tell me what you changed so I will know how it worked.
Thanks

I copied the fields over from my staging site to my production site. It definitely works better than before, although it’s still imperfect.
I have a question about your note, where you said “This compatibility is for left sidebar, so use only display left sidebar for GD pages from GeoDirectory > Design section.” Does that mean that your updates fix the left sidebar, but break the right sidebar?
When I have elements in both sidebars, the center column seems to extend all the way to the right edge of the content area, meaning that the right sidebar is actually being pushed beyond the content area and disappears off the right side of the browser window. I’m guessing this is what you are referring to.
For now I’m just using the left column, so it’s okay. But there seems to be a CSS incompatibility between Extra and Geodirectory, because I’m unable to change the width of the left column.
Is there documentation that describes how the Theme Compatibility scripts are to be written? It might help me understand how to tweak things further. I can’t figure out how to configure the Theme Compatibility fields.
Separately, nothing happened when I tried to “export” the theme compatibility settings you created. Is that normal?
Thanks
JamesMay 8, 2018 at 7:34 pm #429585Hello,
there isn’t any documentation, but the general idea is that there are elements that influence the layout. The page allows classes to be added to further target inline overrides on theme CSS.
Can you say more about what you are trying to achieve? If there is another issue, please just let us know how we can help and we will get to it. Did you need the left column wider? Are you using the right sidebar, then?
When you press export a text box should show with a JSON object that can be copied out.
May 15, 2018 at 5:16 pm #430692Hi Alex –
When I press the “Export” button, a box appears below the buttons, but it doesn’t contain anything except some light gray text that says “Paste the JSON code here and then click import again”
So if there is supposed to be JSON code in that box, it’s not there.
May 15, 2018 at 5:24 pm #430693I have a new problem that may or may not be related to the Left Nav fix.
I can no longer use the Add a Business page. When I go there, none of the controls respond to my inputs or mouse clicks.
When I inspect the page, it looks like the container for the Google Ad at the bottom of the page is running vertically the whole length of the body.
Compare that with the behavior of the ad on the site homepage, where the container is only as tall as the ad.
Does that have something to do with the edits we made to theme compatibility?
Here is a link to the Add a Business page

May 15, 2018 at 5:42 pm #430695Here’s a thought…
I see that the tag: geodir_wrapper_open
has
<div id=”main-content”>
<div class=”container”>while the tag: geodir_wrapper_close
has
</div>
</div>
</div>So is that a mismatched number of <div> and </div> tags?
Not sure if that’s really the issue, but it seems odd.
May 15, 2018 at 7:40 pm #430706I see the problem on the add listing page. These developers will take a look at this and find a solution for you.
