A longstanding issue that I’m finally trying to resolve! The ‘forgotten password’ link rarely send an email even though it says it has done. Well, it may send it but it never appears in inbox or spam. It also sends a completely random long replacement password meaning no one knows what it is and for those who notify me i have to go in and manually create/ generate a password for them and send via email myself!

There doesn’t seem to be the same issue with any other auto-based GD messages. Is there a different plugin or something that can be used for ‘forgotten password’, or a way it can send the existing password rather than a newly generated one, or send them to a link where they can set up a new one?

    Thanks

As a secondary, but linked, question. Previously when I’ve sent users a temporary password I’ve created manually, once then logged in users could access their user profile page via the ‘Howdy…’ link at the top on the black bar, and edit to one of their choice. Having just tried to run through this, logged in users can no longer access the profile page (which previously viewed the same as my GD > Users >’Edit User’ admin page on the GD) it instead shows the attached ‘profile’ which gives no option to change the password and I can see no way how they can now access the full ‘Edit User’ page or change their password in any way.

I recently switched the logging in system as the function had stopped working (see one of my previous support threads) so not sure if this has anything to do with it.

    Hello,

I registered and received the ‘forgot password’ email immediately.

About the sending of passwords, it is considered best practice to never decode passwords (ever), so, sending a reset link is the best alternative.

The Change Password form is a page, and you can link to it through the menu. To find the page check the UsersWP -> Pages settings.

I will flag your question for the developers:

Is it possible to show “change password” as a link next to ‘privacy’ and ‘logout’ instead of only as a menu item?
