    Hi there,

Our website is not completing the add listing process. A user can go through the whole thing fine but when selecting the publish button they are taken to the sites homepage and the submission does not come through to the backend.

Adding listings in the backend WP dashboard work however.

We have no caching plugin active and although using CloudFlare this has been turned off (in development mode) so nothing being cached their either.

All settings have been checked against the docs but to no avail.

We are using the latest WP version 4.9 and up to date versions of all plugins (see attached images for details).

Your help on this would be fantastic! We can supply login details if needed, just let me know.

    Many thanks,

    Duncan.

    Hello!

We would be happy to take a look at the site. Please make a private reply with your site URL and your WP Admin credentials so we can take a look.

A few things you could check in the meantime:
Have you checked your GD Permalinks?
Are you testing with a logged in user, unregistered?
Any extra content on the “Preview Listing” page?
Already set WP to allow “Anyone can register”

    Hi Alex,

Thanks for getting back to me.

    I have checked GD permalinks.
Site only allows registered users to submit listings, so can confirm it’s registered users.
There is nothing extra on preview listing page (see attached screenshot).
WP is set to allow anyone to register.

Will private message you those other details.

Thanks gain for your help with this 🙂

    Hello!

I took a look and I can’t see an obvious issue. Please provide verified FTP details so we can proceed with additional diagnosis.

One item of note is that many of your listings are missing categories. Category should be required on all your add listing forms and each listing should have at least one category.

You can visit the custom fields for each CPT to adjust what type of field is applied to the category to make selection easier for users.

I would recommend you try disabling all non GD plugins one by one to see if you can find the culprit.

    Hi Alex,

Tried disabling all but GD plugins but to no avail, still having the same problem.
Hope you are able to find the problem via FTP!

    Cheers,

    Duncan.

    Hello!

I’m sorry if I wasn’t clear. The lack of categories on listings is a serious problem and can cause the issues you are reporting. Please add categories to your data and let us know if that fixes the issue.

Are you saying that if existing listings do not have categories, it stops new listings being added?

If so, do you have any recommendations as to how we could bulk edit listings to add a default category, there are hundreds of listings to go through!

    Thanks.

    Hello!

You can do a bulk edit by exporting, editing, and then importing your listings.

Here is the documentation about Import Export, which also includes helpful information about required fields.

    Hi Alex,

As this is potentially a huge job for us. Are you able to confirm that this will solve the issue?

I cannot see how existing listings without categories will stop new listings on the front end being added. Especially when they can be added in the WordPress dashboard.

Can you confirm if there are any other options?

    Hello!

The requirements that each listing has a category are clearly explained in the Basic Installation section. We cannot provide support if theplugin it is not used as designed.

The list of required data is here on this page:

    https://wpgeodirectory.com/docs/core-export/#import

Once your listings have all the required fields, we can proceed to try other solutions. I am always hoping that there isn’t actually anything wrong.

Have you already tried re-installing the core-plugin?

Have you tried setting up a new site with your exported data(and required fields or not), and just GD Core?

    Hi Alex,

We have setup a local install of the site, an exact copy.

Weirdly this is working fine, when you click the “publish” button it take you to the listing success page: listing-success/?pid=xxxxx

This looks like it could be an issue with URL’s, maybe redirection.
Could this be something to do with the hosting environment or specific PHP settings?

In light of this new development, it would be great to get your input on this.

    Cheers,

    Duncan.

    Hello!

We cannot provide support if the plugin it is not used as designed. WordPress posts don’t work without categories.

We go through triage one step at a time. If you ran another site, with only 5 listings that each had all the minimum required data, with updated WP and Addons, we could proceed to look into other issues.

    Thanks for your understanding

After many hours of debugging and testing. It appears that the issue had nothing to do with categories. It looks like the Geo Directory stores absolute URL’s in the database and it was this that caused the problem.

We resolved it by migrating the website to a new hosting platform and migrated the database using Migrate DB Pro. This did a find and replace action and resolved the URL issue.

The site is now working as it should (even without editing the categories).

Should anyone else have similar issue in the future, I suggest migrating their sites database to another WordPress install (either on same domain in a subfolder or a totally new setup) and use Migrate DB Pro. Alternatively check the database tables and edit those.
