Hi,
I need to integrate BuddyPress and a job board. What job board plugin do you think should I use?
Will GD work well with BP and a job board plugin?
May 24, 2014 at 11:44 am #2947That is exactly what I am working on with my project Progressive Lawyer. I am using WPJobBoard (http://wpjobboard.net/) and am moving to Avada mainly because GD will be compatible with it. The directory part of the site will be last though as I need to ensure the job board and then BuddyPress part of the site work properly in the way I need them to work and GD is not fully compatible with Avada yet.
May 24, 2014 at 11:57 am #2948I am also using Events Manager and not the Events add on for GD for my events section of the site. That may change once I integrate GD into the site but currently I am using a standalone plugin.
May 24, 2014 at 3:04 pm #2954Thank you for the info, Mark. I narrowed down my choices to either Job Roller or WPjobboard and it looks like the latter is the way to go since JR may not work with BuddyPress.
Do you think it’s better to use a non-GD theme or child theme like Avada in the long run?
May 24, 2014 at 3:12 pm #2955I think it depends on what you want to do. My site is essentially an information source for progressive lawyers and the job board and community aspects as well as the blog are essential features of the site. The directory is important but not as important as the job board part so I am using a non-GD specific theme. Stiofan is apparently rewriting the CSS and certain other parts of the plugin so it will play better with well written themes so that is even more of a reason to stick to a non-GD theme if your site is going to be anything other than a directory.
Avada has all I need (and more!) and you can turn off what you don’t use so that is why I am going with that. Eventually I can see myself hiring a developer to better integrate the various functions of my site so that paying for a listing on the job board and directory are not handled separately but for now this will do.
WPJobBoard is a great plugin and the developer is very much like Stiofan and Paolo in that he is constantly updating and improving his product and is very responsive to the community so I highly recommend it. I have learned the hard way that going with freebie plugins leaves you vulnerable when the developer walks. As I am not a developer I prefer to pay for my code.
May 24, 2014 at 3:16 pm #2957Thanks again, Mark.
I think I read on another thread or perhaps on the WP.org thread that Stiofan and Paolo have plans to have industry-specific (e.g., real estate) plugins for GD. Perhaps we should both request a job board with all the features of WP Jobboard.
I just hired a part-time developer based in the Philippines and he will start on June 5th. He will be working for me for 20 hours a week since he is currently employed. Any advice you can share?
BTW, have a nice holiday weekend!
May 24, 2014 at 3:25 pm #2958Personally I think it is sometimes better for developers to maintain a relatively narrow focus instead of trying to add everything and the kitchen sink. If they could integrate a job board with GD that would be cool but this project is dragging along enough as it is so I am using best of breed now so I can get things going.
And thanks!
August 13, 2014 at 11:50 am #11850Hi!
Any updates for BuddyPress integration in GD?April 23, 2015 at 10:54 am #37869So, we now have a fantastic BuddyPress integration and our horizons have expanded!
Is there a plan to make a job board add-on for GD or are we advised to use one of the following?
http://wordpress.org/plugins/job-board/
http://wp-jobmanager.com/
http://wpjobboard.net/
http://wpjobmanager.com/Any thoughts? Any case studies?
Best regards,
Dylan RobertsonApril 24, 2015 at 1:41 pm #37918Integrating wpjobboard requires some custom coding if you want it to integrate with Buddypress fully.

Thank you very much for the heads up and quick response. Is there a plugin or resource you can point us towards?April 24, 2015 at 5:25 pm #37931Not really no. My original idea was to integrate all 3 so that you would have one account that stored all your favourites, resumes, job applications, etc. but it became too complicated to do.
April 25, 2015 at 10:34 pm #38007I found these two which are compatible with BuddyPress:
This one looks great:

You can see it in action here:
https://premium.wpmudev.org/wordpress-development/This one is very well-known:
https://wpjobmanager.com/add-ons/
And, here is its BuddyPress compatibility add-on:

Were you able to integrate a job board on your GD site? What plugin did you use?
June 27, 2015 at 4:47 am #43808Hi,
No, GD was overkill for the site. I used WPJobBoard with the very basic directory that goes with it.
I am using GD for another site that does not have a Job Board.
