hey,
i’m sorry if it’s a newby question.
i’m using kleo theme. autocomplete options are poor, as it autocompletes only from locations i’ve set up.
isn’t there a way to add google autocomplete like this:
http://demo.geomywp.com/search-post-type-with-categories/
?
(see the autocomplete there, it’s exactly what i need). i need this to happen both for places and members. I bought a membership and have all addons installed.
thanks.
June 27, 2016 at 12:09 pm #216562I am guessing you are referring to the auto complete in the NEAR field of the GD Search widget.
GD will autocomplete only from locations in your database because otherwise your visitors get zero results every time, and we don’t want to disappoint your visitors. So as you add listings, the autocomplete will grow.June 27, 2016 at 12:31 pm #216568thanks for the quick reply 🙂
there’s a point in what you’re saying, but since i’m typing in english by searching israeli cities, sometimes visitors misstype even the first two letters, which will result in zero results as well.
also, they are not sure what to search in the first field – “yoga”? “teachers”?
is there a way to set autocomplete to 1 letter in both fields?
and how do i search members by location?
thanks!
idoJune 27, 2016 at 8:09 pm #217047Hi,
I’m sorry but there is no option to do that, I asked to developer to extend it to the near autocompleter too.In Design >> Map you can change the placeholder for each field if you want to help knowing what to search. GD Searches in Title, Content, Tags and Categories.
There is no way to allow users to set their location on their profile (they can only be geolocated via browser to show newarby listings) so there is no way to search users by location.
Thanks
June 27, 2016 at 8:16 pm #217051thanks for replying.
i think there might be a small solution, but i’m not sure. if you user PaidMembershipPro plugin, every membership which isn’t free has members assigning their billing addresses to their profiles in mandatory fields. Maybe you can search by their location then, but I have no idea.
now that you’re talking about placeholders in search, i’m thinking – why not allow just to explicitely search tags as a dropdown? i see the autocomplete in “search for” also autocomplete tags, which is wonderful. but maybe the ability to make it a drop down? just a thought.
anyway thanks again for the answer.
IdoJune 27, 2016 at 8:45 pm #217069Hi,
GeoDirectory doesn’t search for users, just for listings, so that would require quite a bit of custom code.
There is no option to turn that in a tags drop down, as I said it doesn’t only search in tags.
Thanks
June 29, 2016 at 3:18 pm #218282Hi there, In last version of GD advanced search addon, we have added “Min chars needed to trigger autocomplete” setting.
This setting available under Geodirectory -> Advanced Search -> SEARCH AUTOCOMPLETER SETTINGS
That setting also applicable for Near autocomplete.
Can you set the value to 1 and let me know how that goes?
Thanks
June 29, 2016 at 5:45 pm #218415I didn’t know that option was for both fields, I’m sorry… 🙂
