geodirectory plugin having issues

    there was an issue determining where geodirectory plugin is installed and activated. please install or activate geodirectory plugin.

    that text above is the error i get when geodirectory is installed and activated.
    i get this error when activating other plugins that have nothing to do with geodirectory
