I have an Excel file that lists 25 farms. I converted it to a CSV file and it said that it ‘uploaded successfully. a total of 0 records inserted, please transfer all images in /wp-content/uploads/2014/06/’ folder. I’m not sure where to find the folder or how to import this data. Can I even use it? I will retype if I have to because it’s not that much information. I’m still struggling to get anything that looks like a new entry input.
June 13, 2014 at 6:57 pm #4192Hi Cathy,
to install any addon, you go to Plugins >> Add New >> Upload >> Select zip from your desktop >> Install Now.
Once installed you can activate it directly.
Plugin must be uploaded one by one.
For any doubt you may have about wordpress releated things, I’m glad to let you know that you will find countless tutorials, videos and how to by simple searching with google.
Example: wordpress install plugin
I’ll check now why your icons are not uploading correctly.
Give me 5 mins…
June 13, 2014 at 8:01 pm #4197Thank you for being so patient with me Paolo. It was very easy to unzip the addon file in WP. I just didn’t realize I had to do it there. The icons are all back in too. I appreciate all your help.
June 13, 2014 at 8:05 pm #4198Yes I was just tgoing to say that I re-uploaded the markers (don’t know what happened there) and if you attach your CSV to the next reply, I’ll see what’s wrong with it.
I’ve built the demo content through CSV uploads and I know for sure that it works flawlessly…

June 13, 2014 at 9:15 pm #4203Hi Paolo:
I have our farm listed and a few others. Why would I want or not want to merge a location?
How do I set up the Berry Farm category with the various elements on the page? I can see our listing in the “places” but ideally I’ll have 2 or 3 columns of farm names with their address, tel, and website showing with more information on click through. I’m not sure how to start this. I’m learning a ton though.I love the pinpoint feature!

because computers are very fast, but also very stupid, you can’t upload just any file with scattered informations, the plugin will not recognize the data and will not be able to enter it in the database correctly.
The plugin needs a CSV file with data structured in the only way the plugin is able to recognize it and that structure is available in the sample file that you can download in the same admin page where you upload the CSV file.
If you need to get many lat and longs coordinates from a list of addresses, you can use a service like : http://www.findlatitudeandlongitude.com/batch-geocode/.
Mandatory fields are Title, Description, Catgeory (must be created in advance), Country, Region, City, Address, Lat and Long, all the rest it really isn’t.For images, prepare a folder on your desktop and copy the names of the images for each listing in the appropriate fields (including the file extensioin eg: .jpg .png). After uploading the file it will tell you where to copy the images in your server.
Let me know if you still have doubts.
Cheers,
Paolo
June 14, 2014 at 12:24 am #4216Hi Paolo:
I won’t use the CSV. I can just type in the address–I don’t have that many. How do I set the page up with the data sections I want to use?

June 14, 2014 at 12:46 am #4218This program is capable of so much more than I need. I want a simple list of farms with the map above that can be clicked on to take me to the name and address of the farm, with tel and website URL. Do I need to create a custom place setting? How do I do this?
June 14, 2014 at 12:59 am #4219Hi Cathy,
The standard GD will let you do that with one location, you might need the Location Manager if your farms are in more than one town? Once you install that plugin the new farms can be added for any location and they will be added to the map.
I suspect the popup text on the map will be easier to specify in the next release, due sometime soon.
June 14, 2014 at 1:13 am #4221Hi:
I bought and installed the multi-location plugin. Every farm is in a small town within 2 hours of one big city. Currently I have multi-city enabled, but I am wondering if I should enable Everywhere City instead? I have to type in each town in the multilocation section to be able to input an address.
How do I see a map and the farm listings on one page (not the home page)? How do I set it up? I’m a new WP user and find this plugin really difficult to start. Once I have one or two set up, I’m sure I can do the rest. Any advice?
Thanks,
CathyJune 14, 2014 at 1:39 am #4224Hi Cathy,
When the multi-location plugin is installed, you can just enter the new locations in the “Add Listing” form and the new towns will get added to the multi-locations automatically.
I don’t think it hurts to enable the “Everywhere” location – I believe that is just used in the location selector for website users who want to see the listings from everywhere, rather than just a specific town.
The “Home” page in GD sounds like it has the format you want to display the map and listings? If you want to use a different page on your website as your home page, you can, and then create a new link to the GD home page using this URL as the link …
yoursitename.com/location/
e.g. for the GD test site it is… http://wpgeo.directory/location/
On the other hand, if you want a different page and layout for the map and list of farms, then I think you will have to wait for the next release when – hopefully – shortcodes will become available and you’ll be able to place the list and map anywhere you want. At this stage I think we are stuck with the default GD home page layout?
June 14, 2014 at 1:58 am #4228If you have a look at this page…
http://www.bookhinterland.com.au/accommodation/
This is a standard “Listing” page, and I think you can specify in the GD settings how many listing columns you want?? (Sorry I don’t have GD installed at the moment and I’m working from memory)
You can also go to the Appearance/Widgets area of WP and specify that you want a map at the TOP of the listings page, and get rid of the map in the Listings sidebar?
That might be closer to what you want/need?
June 14, 2014 at 4:10 pm #4252It works! I simply changed the name of Location to Berry Farms and made that my page on my menu. The basic Geo Directory is what I wanted. Thank you so much everyone. This is exactly what I’m looking for and I can’t wait to start exploring all the features.
June 16, 2014 at 7:58 pm #4367Hi Paolo:
I am up and running now–yippee. But, I need to remove some categories that you set up as a test. How do I do that? I’d like to keep the files to explore down the road, but I don’t want them to show up on the map. The sample data does not show up on the map.
Thank you so much everyone. Purpleedge, I appreciated your input (just what I needed).
Cathy
P.S. I can mark this resolved, but I don’t know how to do it. Can I do it or does an admin do it? -
