Google Search Console reporting HTML problems

    Google Search Console is reporting HTML problems (Improvements) for our site including:

    Duplicate title tags
    There are almost 300 duplicates with more than 1,200 URL impacted.
    Example:
    https://www.gojapango.com/places/tokyo/tokyo/chuo/attractions/district/
    https://www.gojapango.com/places/tokyo/tokyo/chuo/attractions/district/?sort_by

    It appears that Google is indexing the first URL as expected. Then also indexing the same page, but with the sorting set to another option.
    Is there are way to make the sort_by pages have a canonical link to the primary url?
    I am sure this must be impacting on most if not all sites using GeoDirectory.

    This same problem is also causing Duplicate meta descriptions to occur.

    Hi,

    the canonical URL for the link with the sort_by var is:

    while it should be:

    

    <link rel="canonical" href="https://www.gojapango.com/places/tokyo/tokyo/chuo/attractions/district/"/>

    

    I believe this is due to a problem with Sessions, because I can’t recreate it in any of our demos.
    

    I asked to the developers to follow up, I’m sure they’ll need admin credentials.

    Ok, I missed this yesterday.
    

    The canconical code is being correctly generated by GeoDirectory.
    

    <link rel="canonical" href="https://www.gojapango.com/places/tokyo/tokyo/chuo/attractions/district/"/>
    

    I suppose the question is why is Google either not seeing it or ignoring it?
