I have put change location shortcode in a custom menu in my theme header. When I select a location and after that click on a category I get mysite.com/places/region/city/category-name( as my setup).
When I don’t select any city, I don’t click “near me” button … etc, when I click on a category the link looks like this mysite.com/category-name( and it’s normal) but I get 404 error, page not found.
Also when I click the category link on a listing with City( near me …etc) selected I get mysite.com/places/region/city/category-name/. With no locațion selected I get mysite.com/category-name and the same 404 error, page not found with the link.
There is a known problem in Geodirectory, or is it possible that I ‘ve made something bad over there? I don’t really know what I can do to fix this.
February 9, 2016 at 12:41 am #119611The location switch should take you to pages like location/country/region etc.
Shortcodes are not for menus.
Can you post URL and WP admin details so we can try to understand what you have done. Thanks.February 9, 2016 at 10:30 am #119846Yes they are. Installed the plugin that lets me add sidebar areas as dropdowns.
The problem is simple. If I select a location from the location switcher let’s say San Francisco, when I want to click on any category let’s say restaurant, the address looks like mysite.com/place/selected-region/san-francisco/restaurant and it takes me there. If I don’t select any location from the location switcher, when I want to click on restaurant category the address looks like mysite.com/place/restaurant and it gives me 404, error, page not found.
here is my site

February 9, 2016 at 1:29 pm #119882Thanks that was the issue. The second: “Location url prefix” what is used for? I have a location page. Can I change it’s name?
Also, saw this now. For example I publish the listing of a restaurant from Napoli, within restaurant category.
If I select Napoli from location switcher the restaurant category of my Napoli location would have the address mysite.com/location/region/napoli/restaurant.
If Napoli is not selected from location switcher the restaurant category of my Napoli location would have the address mysite.com/location/restaurant.
Is this possible, and better maybe, if the category restaurant( hotel …etc) attached to all the restaurants from Napoli, to have the same url no matter what? Napoli selected from the switcher: “mysite.com/location/region/napoli/restaurant”; Nothing selected: “mysite.com/location/region/napoli/restaurant”?
February 9, 2016 at 3:40 pm #119988Hi,
that way you’d broke the system and only allow users to visit single locations. Nobody could visit region or country levels.
Thanks
February 9, 2016 at 4:50 pm #120006I thought there was a way to have only mysite.com/location/region/city1/restaurant-category, mysite.com/location/region/city2/restaurant-category and for the default “no region” to aggregate all the posts with restaurant category from city 1, city 2, city 3 … etc.
As it is now, when no region/city is selected I have Listing A listed in mysite.com/places/category-restaurant, and when region/city is selected I have Listing A listed in another category mysite.com/places/region/city/restaurant-category. Is it normal? An if is, does it have any impact on google?
February 9, 2016 at 9:27 pm #120136Hi,
the listing is listed in a city / region / country and if you have the everywhere location it will appear there too.
This way you can see it when browsing all listings from all locations. When browsing all listings from that country, region and city.
How can that be wrong?
Thanks,
February 10, 2016 at 12:06 am #120221The listings are ok, with one link always, with country/region/city in the link. The categories have 2 links with country/region/city and without it. But if it’s no problem with Google in that regard I’m ok too. Topic can be marked as closed 😀
Since your plugin is one of a kind( they are some themes on Themeforest but not as powerfull though) I didn’t had what to compare it too to know how things work.
