    Hi there,

    Couple of things…

    1) Currently, we are listing businesses in our directory manually until we have established a base number.

However, because WE are creating the listings, the business owners are not loaded into the system as users…so they can’t login and update their listings.

Once the listing is generated, I ASSUME that I can give them the ability to edit their page/listing by creating a user profile for them AND assigning them as the author of the listing(?).

    Will this work?

If so, what level of user would I give them? (I’m assuming Contributor or Author). What is the GD default for users who register and list themselves?

    2) On the main GD age where the Google Maps page is (and the search bar) how do you add regions so people can narrow their search?

For example, it currently shows popular categories…how can we add another search filter so people can simply click on their region and filtering out the National listings so it shows only the listing in the region (or city) that they select?

    Thanks

    Jeremy

    Hi Jeremy,

Thanks for reaching us. I’ll try to answer your questions accordingly.

#1 The “Claim Listing” addon is what you needed here https://wpgeodirectory.com/downloads/claim-listings/

#2 You can achieve this with the location switcher from the “Location Manager” plugin https://wpgeodirectory.com/downloads/location-manager/ and here is a demo https://wpgeo.directory/supreme-directory/ .You can find the location switcher on the top navigation menu.

    Thanks!

    Kor,

I am a full member and as such already have these plugins.

I’m aware of the “claim listing” feature however our clients are BUSY early childhood teachers, many of whom are either to busy to “bother” with claiming a listing, (despite wanting to be part of the directory) OR they are to confident to use the web (or both).

Basically…we are just trying to make it easier for them (especially initially until we have a solid base of paying clients).

    So…

    1) As per my original post, can give the client the ability to edit their page/listing by creating a user profile FOR them AND assigning them as the author of the listing I created(?).

    Will this method work?

If so, what level of user would I give them? (I’m assuming Contributor or Author) i.e. what is the GD default for users who register and list themselves?

    2) How do I set the Multi-location plugin (already installed) to achieve the desired outcome for the question posed in my original post?

Namely…on the main GD page where the Google Maps page is (and the search bar) how do you add regions so people can narrow their search?

For example, it currently only shows popular categories…how can we add another search filter so people can simply click on their region, therefore filtering out the National listings so it shows only the listing in the region (or city) that they select?

    Thanks

    Jeremy

    Hello!

You might think this is a funny answer, but, the easiest way to do this might be to actually use the claim listing UI.

In the Claim Listing settings, choose ‘don’t allow choice of password’

    For each listing:

Use Chrome Incognito and logout of the site
Visit the listing, and press the claim
Complete claim form, Register (with the user’s email)
    Repeat

As the admin, then, go to the claims and approve them all.

TO answer individually, users must have the ‘Author’ role.
Admin must visit the listing and adjust the Author value, which usually shows at the very bottom of the screen as a drop down.

About ‘narrowing search’, the search doesn’t exactly work that way.

Nearby can narrow results, but that is actually showing ‘all’ results that match the search criteria based on the latlon of the nearest city or neighborhood.

Advanced search is used to ‘narrow results’ based on criteria including nearby. You also have several choices for widgets and shortcodes that can provide lists of geo area.

    https://wpgeodirectory.com/docs/location-manager-shortcodes/

Also check the GD -> Multilocations settings page to select the options you want to enable, including the location switcher, which allows users to go directly to a region.

Let us know how that works for you.

I can see that the “filter” is available by looking at the GD Directory Starter Demo website…https://wpgeo.directory/starter/

The area below the “Popular Categories” area shows “regions/cities” that can be used to “filter” the results. I have attached a screenshot also.

Can this be done? (I assume it can because its done on GD Starter).

    Thanks

    Jeremy
