Hi,
I have done a test with some users, and all the users had the same experience (including me…). I explain what:
If an user goes to the “CUSTOM POST TYPE PAGE”, for example “lugares de interes”:
https://infocity.website/lugaresdeinteres/
in the “GD>Search” automatically will be showed and autoselected how default the option: “lugares de Interes” according to the CPT visited.
If the user goes to other “CUSTOM POST TYPE PAGE”, for example “restaurantes y bares”:
https://infocity.website/restaurantesybares/
in the “GD>Search” automatically will be showed and autoselected how default the option: “restaurantes y bares” in according to the CPT visited.
So, in “GD>Search” will be auto selected the option in according to the CPT visited.
It is very well. OK.
But it is not soo good in others cases like the following:
I have in my home page the following widget
“GD>GMap-Home Page”
“GD>Search”
I also have the same widgets in Location page.
My first CPT is “LUGARES DE INTERES” (the secuency of CPT is selected in CUSTOM POST TYPE>advanced mode>Order in post type list).
If the user is in Home page or in location page and it search for RESTAURANTES Y BARES, the first accion done for the users was to do click in RESTAURANTES Y BARES in the “HORITZONTAL MENÚ” showed into the widget “GD>GMap-Home Page”.
But when user does click in RESTAURANTES Y BARES (in the “Horizonal Menú” into “GD>GMap-Home Page”), in the “GD>Search” there are not changes. The selection will not change automaticaly to the option RESTAURANTES Y BARES. The option selected will be remain always the first CPT (LUGARES DE INTERES).
This situation generate confusion to the user. Why?
Because users never are seing the dropdown menú into “GD>Search” for select the CPT.
When users done click in RESTAURANTES Y BARES in the “HORITZONTAL MENÚ” shown into the widget “GD>GMap-Home, they are thinking that automatically the search is setted for RESTAURANTES Y BARES. So, if they introduce a city and do click in search, the search will show LUGARES DE INTERES and no RESTAURANTS AND BARES.
Of course, it is an error of the users… They must have atention, of course, but we also need provide the most intuitive solution for navigation.
The error is due the no synchronization between GD>GMap-Home Page” widget and “GD>Search” widget.
I think it is not possible synchronize them, but maybe there is a simple solution:
when “GD>Search” is into a generic page or into location page (and not in CPT page…)
the default option selected must be a new item “SELECT OPTION” and this dropdown menú must be a mandatory field. What happen if NO OPTION is selected?
When user do a search from general page (for example home page) or location page, and it markes for example RESTAURANTS AND BARES in the “HORITZONTAL MENÚ” shown into the widget “GD>GMap-Home, and after that it intruduces a city for to do a search, the search will must run only after to selecte the CPT it want. If it does not selecte a CPT, a message must be showed suggesting to the user that is mandatory select one CPT in the dropdown windows .I hope you have understood me… Sorry for my bad english.
I add a picture, so you can see what I want say.
I have had this suggestion from a 80 per cent of my user after a test…
I also have had the same experience…
I hope you think like me.
Let me if it is possible to do that for improve the experience of the users.
Thank you for your support.
I hope your reply.December 6, 2016 at 7:12 pm #320172Hi,
that is not possible, 1 CPT must be selected by default or the search form won’t know which categories and custom fields to load.
In similar case, I’m sorry but I don’t think the problem is the application and the application can be adapted up to a certain point to users needs.
Thanks
December 6, 2016 at 9:16 pm #320223Ok, I understand you.
You say:1 CPT must be selected by default or the search form won’t know which categories and custom fields to load.
But it is not necessary show/load categories if CPT is no selected, of course.
Categories not showed/loaded, I think it is not a problem.
Categories will be showed after select a CPT.
The problem is when user are redirected to pages, and they do not understand where, due the default selected no detected from the user. The solution I have thought run like I explain following:
1. When CPT is in “NO SELECTED” position => categories are not loaded and if user to do click in the button for to start the search, a message will say: “For to start a search, please select a CPT”
2. When user select the CPT he want, categories will charged automatically and user will be able to do click in the button for to start the search.
I do not know if this solution is possible (codeable) and if you and the developer (@stiofan) likes this option.
The advantage of this solution is to help the user in understand how run the SEARCH TOOL. If you provide at the user a default option of CPT, but when the user to do click in CPT located in the MAP => the CPT in the SEARCH TOOL is not updated, so maybe that the better solution is no provide a default CPT.
I hope you like this solution. I think it is better that the actual solution.
Thanks for your support.December 7, 2016 at 12:29 am #320284Personally I don’t think that would improve the user experience. I asked Stiofan to share his views too.
If many other people would request the exact same thing we’d consider it, but as of now I’ve seen this coming up a couple of times max and that is definitely not enough considering the number of website using the plugin today.
Thanks
