Hello. I have set up/listed about 50 new Places (groups) and now wish to create one account for all the group leaders to edit and manage their own listing. I only want group leaders to have access to the geodirectory. How do I allocate this user role?
Thank you
MichelleJanuary 24, 2017 at 9:51 pm #348739Each listing needs to be “owned” by one user.
You can create the users, and then assign them to the listing (towards the bottom of the listing in the backend).
The users will have to be at the author level before they can be assigned, but you can set them to a lower level later if that is what you want.
Listings can only be edited from the frontend, by the “owner” of the listing and administrators.Thanks.
January 24, 2017 at 10:10 pm #348740Thank you – so it’s not possible to create 1 account for all the listings?
How do I do this step by step please?
January 25, 2017 at 4:29 am #348866You can create one user that can edit all listings if that is what you want.
1. Create a new user at Users
2. Make sure the user is at the author level.
3. Navigate to a listing in the backend, scroll to the bottom of the page and assign the user to the listing.
4. SaveJanuary 25, 2017 at 10:36 am #349050I have allocated the WP Author role to a new User (and checked they have permission to edit/publish/delete Places) but when I log in as that User it shows me as being logged in on the http://www.attachmentparenting.co.uk/groups/ page but I can’t see how to edit the page?
There is also an error with the listing box – see screen shot attached.
January 25, 2017 at 1:18 pm #349193Did you assign the user to all the listings?
A user cannot edit the Groups page, only listings.
Once you assign the listing, there will be an Edit button on the detail page in the sidebar, like this detail page: http://attachmentparenting.co.uk/places/united-kingdom/oxfordshire/abingdon/south-east/apuk-abingdon/January 25, 2017 at 10:00 pm #349540This reply has been marked as private.January 25, 2017 at 10:01 pm #349541This reply has been marked as private.January 25, 2017 at 10:08 pm #349542Ah ok – now I added the correct user to APUK Abindgon but they don’t have permission to edit the page (there is a typo in your on-screen message because permission is spelt incorrectly). I only gave the author permission to edit places but I guess they need permission to edit pages too??
January 25, 2017 at 10:53 pm #349546You need to allow your users to add or edit Places at GD > Design > Navigation >
See https://wpgeodirectory.com/docs/core-design/#navigationYou also need to add this CSS:
.geodir-loginbox-list ul {overflow: visible;}
Your theme takes over the GD login box CSS styling.
You can change our spelling mistake etc using the language files: https://wpgeodirectory.com/docs/translate-core/

All that does is allowing that user to edit listings that he/she “owns”, but you have not set any listings to be “owned” by the user yet.You have to go to the listing and connect the user.
3. Navigate to a listing in the backend, scroll to the bottom of the page and assign the user to the listing.

January 26, 2017 at 1:14 pm #349781But I have done that – see screenshots attached. Sorry I can’t get this to work – I don’t know why it’s not happening!
January 26, 2017 at 1:39 pm #349795But that is not how users are assigned to listings.
All that does is allowing that user to edit listings that he/she “owns”, but you have not set any listings to be “owned” by the user yet. That is not assigning a user to a listing.
EACH LISTING NEEDS TO HAVE AN “OWNER”1. Navigate to Places
2. Click on edit for one of your listings
3. Scroll to the bottom where is says “author”
4. Replace with the user you want to own the listing.
5. If the author does not show, check your “screen options”Please post WP administrator credentials if we need to check things further. POST THEM IN A PRIVATE REPLY.
