How to properly customize Supreme Directory?

    Is there a way to customize the child theme “Supreme Directory” at a code level without losing my changes whenever you guys release an update for it?
    Pretty basic WordPress stuff, but since this is already a child theme I’,m not sure how to proceed with my own customizations of it without having to manually re-do my PHP / HTML / JS / CSS changes whenever you guys make an update for the theme?

    I guess I could use a plugin like Code Snippets to edit some of the stuff in the functions.php, but what about the template files themselves? Are there any available hooks or filters to get into the templates from there? If so, where can I look for them?

    I cannot seem to find an edit or delete option so I will just keep on updating and posting as I go… For now I opted to use the Code Snippets plugin since setting grandchild themes is a really bad practice according to most WordPress authorities, plus it rises more issues than it solves since I would have to reference both the child and parent theme codes and make sure to be using everything in the right order, etc.

    An example of a customization I would like to do is:
    Changing the “near” input field in the home page header to a dropdown select with pre-set state choices.

    Hi,

    yes there are hooks and filters to do just about anything.

    The search form however is not part of the theme, its the gd search widget and it comes with GeoDirectory plugin.

    I alerted the developers and asked them to help you with few pointers.

    They’ll let you know asap.

    Hi Andres,

    Supreme is a child theme. As you mentioned grandchild themes are bad idea. The only way to customize supreme is either use code snippets or modify the supreme itself.

    For the later part, you may lose your changes if you try to update it.

    We provide hooks to make most of the changes.

    In case you require a custom hook, let us know. We are happy to include that in supreme.
