How to Resolve Image Size, Move Away from Tabs?

I am having to control the image size through design elements. This seems to mean I need to move away from using tabs which is unfortunate because tabs enable more options and for custom detail page layouts between CPT’s.

So, is there a way to make it so images in the tab gallery are “full” to avoid compressed, degraded images?
