how to safely edit file

hi,
I need to add some script to this file geodir_advance_search_filters/geodirectory_advance_search_function.php

may I know how can I edit it in safetest way so future update will not overwrite the change?

Hi,

there is no way to edit a core file and keep it safe for updates.

If you explain what you are trying to do, we will tell you if it is possible without editing a plugin file.
