How would you implement this?

I was wondering what people might think is the best way to implement this kind of functionality?

I am creating a movie production services directory that includes, locations, cast and crew. I would like to have a user create a project that includes a list of Actors (characters) and locations needed for a specific script.

On its simplest terms having a new “fantasy” place defined (lets say “old Victorian Mansion”) for each needed location that would then use the “Related Listing Function” is one theory that might work. Linking the results in some list together would let the user have define selects and eventually define a final option.

Same for a Talent / Actors directory used to suggest actors for a specific role.

Anyway, any ideas on implementation? What might be the overall scheme –
“special” category of posts within a specific post type that are used to create a link / relationship?

Or would some sort of saved “advanced search” that was defined by filling out a form and then saved under the “ideal Location Name”

    Any ideas?

Hoping the GD listing becomes available for other themes soon

I am not sure if I understand correctly, but I’ll have a go anyway. This is what I think I am hearing:

You and/or other users will create a directory containing available shoot locations, and cast and crew available.
Moviemakers can then come along, and browse or search the directory, and make comments on anything they think might suit. Like this would make a nice haunted house, and I like this carpenter, and this actor looks like a ghost.
That user then can create a new GD List called “My haunted house movie” and from all listings he commented on, distill the final favorites wanted for the impending movie.

GD Lists is coming soon for other themes.

    Did I understand correctly?

Yes Guust that is the basic idea, but as it develops I would like to see it more automated – for instance.

I have a haunted house movie. I make a list of all the locations for the movie. A house. A cemetery. A portal to hell. Each of these locations are like a place post, with tags such as “old house”, “Victorian” “creepy”.

They would go to a SCOUT locations page and select the movie location from a drop down of all the locations in a movie – and that page would be populated with real places locally that have matching tags. The ones the user likes gets “attached” to that location – eventually the ones selected becomes “cast” in the role.

Actors work the same way – “character descriptions” define the search parameters of the database in a “Casting Call” – choices narrowed down until a actor is chosen for role.

This is really just part of the system – when people, places and things are “attached to the project” a BUDGET gets created and that budget is used directly in the financing / production process.

I cannot really think of any other way than what I described earlier.
The extra things you describe would be a complex customization.
