    Hello,

I’m right in the middle of trying to rebuild a website using GeoDirectory and so far I’m quite impressed.

The task I’m currently struggling with is importing several thousand records from the old site in to GeoDirectory.

I do not have latitude and longitude fields in the original site as I integrated with Google maps using postcodes along – which for UK locations (all my record are in the UK) works fine.

So I’m a bit stumped as to how to import all my records. I can’t manually input the longitude and latitude fields for every single record.

    What would you recommend please?

    Regards,

    Jamie

This will show you have to get lat and lng in bulk:

Let us know how you went.

Here’s the tool I use, since I work with Google Docs all the time when preparing files for import:

I can’t get this working as Google Sheets doesn’t seem to have an option to publish as an ATOM file.

The batch lat/long tool mentioned in the documentation is working, however it’s taking a very long time! Guess I’ll just have to leave it for an hour or 5.

Don’t know how many you are doing at once, but the instructions say “up to a few hundred addresses” at the time.

PS: no idea why you’d want an ATOM file …
You will need to copy the lat and lng into your CSV file.

Sorry for the confusion regarding the ATOM file, I was referring to the suggestion by mc1171611 to use the Google sheets tool.

I have now successfully retrieved all the lats and longs by using the batch tool recommended in the documentation. Just had to do them 300 at a time! It seems to run ok to start but then slows down to a snails pace.

    @realist
Then you just will have to spend some more time at http://www.findlatitudeandlongitude.com/batch-geocode/ 🙂 What else do you expect us to say?

I don’t know how it works. i thought address alone could be enough

Address is enough if you add them one by one in the backend or frontend of your site but not if you upload them by CSV.
Have a read of this: https://wpgeodirectory.com/docs/core-export/#batch
