Hello,
I was wondering how I can increase the size of the description of each listing.
On the picture you can see that the address of the listing gets placed really weird and doesn’t look good at all. How can I change this? Seems to be no css, only inline styles for this.
Regards
September 8, 2015 at 7:04 pm #52476Hi,
are you using the latest version of GeoDirectory?
That looks like the map infowindow from a version prior to 1.5.0.
Let us know,
Thanks
September 8, 2015 at 7:37 pm #52485Hi,
No I haven’t been able to update yet due to customizations. Geodirectory handles customizations pretty bad so I’ve stayed with that version.
But seeing the layout from the new version makes me reluctant to update to be honest.
It’s not as appealing as the old layout really. Is there a way to change it back to the old layout if you upgrade?
Regards
September 8, 2015 at 7:45 pm #52487No it is not possible to revert to the old marker.
What do you mean by :
Geodirectory handles customizations pretty bad
Can you make an example?
September 8, 2015 at 7:59 pm #52492That’s unfortunate. Is there any way to customize it with CSS then?
Sure I can list a few, I’ve made notes on all the changes I’ve made due to it being as many as it is.
1. First one is an email bug, I couldn’t enter some emailadresses and had to change a line to accept a specific domain in listing_validation_admin.js for the admin pages.
2. I had to dig into geodirectory_template_actions.php to change tag length from 40 to XXX. That seems like an easy fix to add to the setting screen but nope.
3. In custom_fields_functions.php I changed it to display a mailto link instead of the email address.
4. There is loads, i mean loads, of translations in the plugin code that isn’t in the .po files that I had to change. Everything from the admin pages to the frontend pages.
That’s just a few. I don’t mind customizing stuff for my own use, but not being able to update the plugin is a pain. But sometimes it’s good, seeing the layouts changed a lot.
September 9, 2015 at 11:03 am #52539Hello Fredrik,
With no disrespect, i am guessing you come from a more straight up PHP background and don’t have much experience with WordPress? Our plugin is extremely customisable, probably more so than any other plugin i can think of. If you need to change something and can’t see a way without modifying a core file then just ask, the chances are there is a way and we will provide an example 🙂
Feel free to customise the map marker however you want, we have only customised it 99% with CSS only, so feel free to add your own.
1. If you have found a bug like that, the sensible thing to do would be to report it, no one has reported anything like this so we have never had to look at it, if it is a genuine bug then it would be fixed and the fix would be in the next version.
2. The tag limit value is easily changed, if you have the price manager installed you can change it per price package, if not you can use this simple code snippet to change it to what ever you want.
3. This could also be done with a code snippet but frankly i’m not sure why we don’t do it by default, i’m going to post in our project manager to see if there is a good reason we don’t add the mailto and if not i will add it. (will keep you updated)
4. Why would we want a broken translation? Post about them and maybe we can show you how it’s done or if there is no way to do it then we will add a way 🙂
Thanks,
Stiofan
September 9, 2015 at 12:55 pm #52549Hi,
I took no disrespect and I hope you didn’t either, because that was really not the case and I hope you weren’t offended.
For the record; I have the same amount of experience in css/html/etc as in php.
The thing is about all those things is that when I first installed the geodir-framework I tried getting on the forums to ask questions but back then you had to pay loads of money to even get into the forums. I don’t think I could even make the account. Seeing that you had to pay to get support for a plugin that was pretty much money I just made the customizations for my client as needed and left it at that. I’m not sure why and when you changed this but now that I’m in the forums I’d love to report bugs and all that. I just haven’t had the chance before.
And since you charge for every little thing you want to add to the framwork it made me not so keen to report bugs either. I started with the framwork thinking it would all be fine, then ended up paying for 5 more plugins that I thought were included :/.
Enough about all that. To answer your questions:
1. I saw recent fixes about this in the comments around the code, so this has been a problem before. The domain in question was “.coop”.
2. Paying $45 for a plugin that makes this simple customization available isn’t really what I want to do. No I don’t have the plugin 🙂
3. That’s exactly what I did. Thanks!
4. Where do you want them? Not sure if I noted ALL of them but I do have some.
This has gone wayyy of topic btw, sorry about that 🙂
Thanks,
Fredrik
September 11, 2015 at 10:33 am #52760Just a little note about pricing: Years ago i also hated paying for addons to plugins, i didn’t have much money then and would try to edit the code like you, now i realise if paying for that plugin is going to make me money then it really pays for it’s self. Our pricing is such that we have a membership package which is $60 for 4 months which includes ALL our products, this is really a very low price and considering most single addons are around $45 it is a bargain. We do this so users can pay as little as possible to be able to get started, users have an idea and want to build it, the only have a $60 investment if they are on a budget, if the project works then the $60 will pay for it’s self, if not then they are only down $60 and can even try it on as many simultaneous projects as they want as we don’t limit per domain or anything.
1. This was a long time ago, i assume all is well since you updated.
2. I hope the code snippets work for you now then 🙂
3. I’ll implement this later, so it will be in the next release, likely i will try and add some anti bot crawler stuff to stop it being scraped.
4. A new topic per bug is preferred, then we can assgin them and track when fixed. 🙂
Thanks for the feedback 🙂
