Hi support,
I am observing the following behavior since some time but I cannot create a pattern to find the reason of this problem. I need your help to solve that.
The listings for places, events and offers (additional CPT) are sporadically becoming not accessible on the front-end, showing the 404 page.
On the back-end the listings have status published. Only after re-publishing them, they appear on the front-end.
404 page come when trying to access the listings details page.
The listings appear in the search results though with all their data (address, custom fields, image).
This happens completely without any traceable pattern form my side. Today, we checked the website in the early morning and all listings and events were leading to 404.
Our permalink structure includes only the city and no categories.
Is there anything related to deleting/adding categories for the listings, making change sin the Price Packages, etc.
What would trigger such a behavior. Please help, the site is life, we are working hard on promoting the website and it is very bad when the user end-up on a disfunctional site.
Thanks.
March 14, 2016 at 11:28 am #139249Do you have a site for one region only?
Permalinks with only city in the URL will not work if you have a site for more than one region.Post your URL and admin details in a private reply if we need to have a look at your settings.

If you want location in URL and you have listings in more than one country, you need to use the ” Füge die vollständigen Angaben der Location (Land,Region,Stadt) in die Eintrags Url ein” option.
You have only one Germany. Go to GD > multilocations > manage locations tab > and check the “country” dropdown.
Please check. Thanks.
March 17, 2016 at 10:47 am #141662Hi Guust,
Thanks for the reply.
Actually, we really don’t want to have the country and the region in the permalink. Our entries will be 98% form Germany and the rest 2% from Austria and Switzerland.
Is it possible to override the GD permalinks with Yoast SEO plugin and have only the city name in it?
The double Germany is not visible in GD tabs, just in the database, but I figured out how to handle this by myself.
Looking forward to getting your comment on the Yoast SEO.
Thanks
March 17, 2016 at 12:13 pm #141819No, that is not possible, but you can remove all location details including the city.
I doubt very much that Yoast would be able to manage what you want.March 17, 2016 at 2:13 pm #141872Knocking on a rock again 🙂 The city name is good to be in the URL…
1. Could you advise any other type for setup for our site then? Would it make a difference if we have just some countries allowed? Could we then use a permalink structure only with the city in the URL?
2. When ONLY the city in the URL should to be used? Only when 1 country is selected in the settings or there is also another scenario …?
Thanks.
March 17, 2016 at 4:17 pm #141894Hi,
if you have more than 1 country, you must have country and region in URL.
It kinda logic…
Thanks
March 18, 2016 at 9:13 am #142349Hi, paolo,
thanks again for the clarification.
I can imagine having the abbreviations for the countries and regions for us can be a good solution.
Is there any tips that you can point me to, that we can reprogram the permalink to include ‘de’ instead of deutschland and ‘by’ instead of bayern – so short abbreviation names and not the full ones?
Like this we can keep the permalink much much shorter and still have the city name in.
Thanks.
March 18, 2016 at 9:35 am #142350Hi paolo,
I was just looking at the GD permalinks settings. May you explain in which cases, we can use this option:
– /land/stadt/
I suppose there should be a scenario in which it can be used if it exists as an option.
Thanks.
March 18, 2016 at 9:43 am #142352Hi paolo,
me again 🙂
I am looking that there is country URL after translation in the GD Mulsilocations settings. DO you think it is possible to exchange the translation with the country abbreviation instead of the full country name without breaking the permalinks?
Thanks.
March 18, 2016 at 5:16 pm #142570Hi mb,
I would be careful about shortening names too much, you could have problems if a short country names matches a regions name etc. Is it a global directory or just Germany?

March 18, 2016 at 5:36 pm #142607Hi Stiofan,
Thanks for commenting on this question.
We are covering a specific region that includes mostly part of South Germany and very small parts of Austria and Switzerland.
So, it is not the whole Germany, and it is not only Germany.
We are trying to build a natural looking url structure to our website users.
We found the best functioning with Multiple Countries setting in GD Multilocations plugin.
Would it be possible to use Multiple Locations setting with this permalink choice:
/country/city/
(Sorry, above was written translated in German).
Like this at least we can shorten the url, not having the region in it.
Thanks.
