    Hi,

I love the idea of using the new shortcode [gd_listing_map] to set up separate landing pages for each of my CPTs – something that I hope will help to improve seo results for my site.

However, the map that is is displaying on the page is not showing the correct CPT as set in the shortcode. Could this be due to the fact that the CPT slug has been changed recently – after the listings were added for that CPT? I have tried putting listing slug and cpt name in the shortcode – neither displays the correct CPT

Also, I am displaying a search bar underneath the map and would like this also to default to the same CPT as the listing page map – is this possible? Together with the content that I will write for the page this should allow me to put together a series of finely-tuned landing pages for each of my CPTs

    Login creds to follow…

    Hi,

that was a wee bug in the latest version, if you update using the https://github.com/GeoDirectory/geodirectory/ version, it’ll be fixed.

    Or wait for next release.

    Thanks

p.s. you already have a landing page for each CPT…

    Hi Paolo,

I will have a closer look at the github page – having just looked, it appears to have instructions for different ways of updating – should I use the automatic or manual – and is it the core plugin I need to update?

Also, I am aware that the CPT listing slug gives a useful landing page, but I don’t believe that there is a page in the backend that I can use add content to that page (isn’t the page just auto-generated using just directory listings?) – or am I able to add content to this page?

    Thanks,
    Adrian

… also, is it possible to set a canonical url on the auto-generated CPT listing page in favour of my CPT landing page with content? (or am I asking a question that is not necessary from a SEO point of view? entirely possible!)

    Hi,

you can only update via FTP overwriting old file with new files.

There is no way to do that and it shouldn’t be necessary. Maybe you can setup a 301 redirect instead.

    Thanks

    Thanks Paolo,

the only outstanding question regards adding content to the CPT ‘landing page’:

I am aware that the CPT listing slug gives a useful landing page, but I don’t believe that there is a page in the backend that I can use add content to that page (isn’t the page just auto-generated using just directory listings?) – or am I able to add content to this page?

    Hi,

you can use the category top description and the category description widget to add dedicated text to that page.

The rest is built with widgets too.

    Thanks

Thanks Paolo, I think that I will stick with my bespoke page for the added flexibility.

A (hopefully!) final couple of questions on this:

    1. when is the next release due that will fix the CPT shortcode map bug discovered above?
    2. if I do want to update from github in the meantime is it core plugin or CPT plugin that needs to be updated – and which file precisely on github (I have never done this sort of update before)

    1) I don’t have a date at the moment.

    2) I believe it is in core plugin and you don’t need to pick a file to replace, you download, unzip and upload all files via FTP.

    Thanks

OK I have this working – your guidance at this page is a little misleading:
    https://wpgeodirectory.com/docs/core-shortcodes/

It says to put the ‘slug‘ of the desired CPT in the shortcode, but in fact you need to put in the CPT’s Post Type, not the Listing Slug – I suggest a slight re-wording of the guidance! (neither were working before I updated to Github version)

    thanks,
    Adrian
