Hi,
I installed the GD and was playing around and its pretty cool. I will plan purchase the addons later but I want to taste the waters first. I read the docs and faqs but Im not quiet sure and if I can get some answers.
My website is: http://www.domrepdir.com
1) Notice, it says DO not touch the virtual pages but I didnt and why it is published live on web, how I can make these pages hidden only if its logged in, know what I mean?
2) Also, if I create a static page, how I can make these pages using GD templates becuase I will be doing adversititng on ALL pages?
3) Will I be able to enable SSL and will GD just work fine with it? Will I need an plugin to enable SSL for ALL pages?
4) If you see, it has my account login box in the widget, but I want to know how I can make a top corner right just like Sky themes, in a nice way design box. If you know what I mean?
June 3, 2015 at 7:45 pm #41450Hello and welcome on board.
1- The virtual pages are needed in the core, and they will be “called” in action only when necessary. When a “not logged in” user will try, for example to add a listing, it will be asked to login first, and if you don’t want to allow people to add listings, you can disallow this option in the backend.
2- not sure what you mean, in static pages you can add GD widgets, if this is what you mean
3- yes you can use SSL, jut set https on the address, on your wordpress settings
4-as long as your theme allows it, you can move the LOGIN widget wherever you want, you can also use a shortcode and “inject” it where you want
here you can find all the available shortcodes https://wpgeodirectory.com/docs/core-shortcodes/
If you want to change the aesthetic part, you can play with css as you want 🙂June 3, 2015 at 7:54 pm #41452Hi,
Thanks for the quick reply, I will try to be little clear this time 🙂
1) The virtual pages, I understand its part of GD core but I mean the pages like Listing Preview, Listing Success and others suppose be unlisted and hidden only for people who submit listings, I dont understand why its published itself.
2) If you see, I create pages like About, Terms of Service and all that, it will use the theme templates not the GD templates, becuase I will be offering adversiting so how I can force all static pages to use GD templates?
3) I assume theres an plugin to force WordPress SSL, I’ll find out it later.
4) For instance, theres a nice plugin called WordPress Ajax login ( http://codecanyon.net/item/ajax-loginregistration-bar-wordpress/3675923 )
** Can I use this and will it work between WP & GD? and put it on the topbar though? Thanks again 🙂
June 3, 2015 at 9:12 pm #414651) the virtual pages have changed since version 1.4.6. Documentation hasbn’t been modified yet. Now they are normal pages and they are controlled via GeoDirectory >> Permalinks settings page. It is normal that they are published.
2) You can’t. GD templates are used for GD elements, they cxan’t be used for regular pages. You will have to add adds separately to the regular pages too.
3) Once your ssl certificate is installed you simply change in wordpress settings the website URL from http:// to https://
4) GD uses wordpress functions to login, so that plugin should work. Here we explain how to redirect the login page for cases like this: https://wpgeodirectory.com/docs/redirecting-the-login-page/
Thanks
June 3, 2015 at 9:50 pm #41474Paolo,
To answer your question:
1) I understand the issue but I dont want the listing preview/success page to be shown on the site, only logged users, becuase it takes the space on the menu link section, hope I am clear on that.
2) I found there is a way I can do if I edit the theme I am using, which I just did and it worked. So far.
3) I will try the SSL later.
4) I managed to get that, it is now live on topbar corner right, working well.
Now, If you see the site, if you click say about page and why the posting view is not in proper view, its all mess up, lot of space, beware, I am using widget for it.
Much thanks!
June 3, 2015 at 10:15 pm #414801) go to appearance >> menu and create a custom menu instead of using the autogenerated menu with all pages.
Thanks
June 4, 2015 at 10:13 pm #41597Thanks for the heads up. Should I go ahead and add BuddyPress since every user will get their own profile page to have their own dashboard and improved signup/login section and several others?
June 4, 2015 at 10:42 pm #41609Totally up to you, personally I love buddypress… and GeoDirectory offers a great Buddypress Integration addon.
June 4, 2015 at 11:36 pm #41612So I need install buddypress over GD then get that BP addon then volia?
June 4, 2015 at 11:56 pm #41613Correct 🙂
