For the location map at http://cretemix.com/location as an example; Is it possible to let the map graphics be zoomed using the mouse wheel, identical to what’s possible on the contact page Google map at http://cretemix.com/contact ?

Yes it is, go to Appearance >> Widgets >> GD Home Top Section >> GD>Gmap – Home Page

and tick : Enable mouse scroll zoom ?
