Hi there,
I have the GeoDirectory Advanced Search plugin activated on my account but it seems like the search isn’t working that great. I have several listings that are Ohio, for example, but only one is showing up for Ohio etc. Is there something that needs to be activated to ensure all listings show up based on their designated location when searched?
My directory is hosted here: https://www.bernieportal.com/broker-directory/
Thanks!
April 30, 2019 at 6:28 pm #483774Hi Sarah,
Thanks for your post. I’ve just tested it and it works fine. Did you use the geolocation dropdown as shown in the attached screenshot?
April 30, 2019 at 8:10 pm #483811When I type in Ohio and press “enter” only one shows up. Why would only one show up when I do that (without using the geolocation dropdown)?
April 30, 2019 at 11:27 pm #483826You can try adjusting the search radius settings in the Search tab settings
GD – Settings – SearchThe search is measuring from the center of Ohio.
May 1, 2019 at 5:33 pm #484025That didn’t work either. I gave it no distance limit and it’s still not showing all my ohio options.
May 1, 2019 at 6:00 pm #484031Try setting to 600 miles or something like it. 0 or blanks won’t work.
Please share a link to a listing that should be in the results so we can take a look. Also include WP Admin in case we need to check the settings.May 1, 2019 at 6:24 pm #484035it’s at 200, still not working. Does something else need to be set up or turned on?
May 1, 2019 at 6:32 pm #484036No, I don’t think so. 200 should cover Ohio.

I’m thinking like a user and I can’t guarantee users will always use the geolocation dropdown so I’m trying to make sure all ways of searching give the same results.
May 2, 2019 at 12:30 am #484065Near search will search within the radius, while an IN search will search only within the state/city referenced in the dropdown.
May 2, 2019 at 6:11 pm #484206Is there a setting where people HAVE to use the dropdown in order for the search to work? I’m not understanding why my search bar isn’t giving accurate results all the time no matter how it’s being used. Please send me your recommendations on how to move forward.
May 3, 2019 at 12:39 pm #484292Can you share a specific example?
In all cases the default radius is applied, so, if you have a listing within say 200 miles and search a term from the title and search IN OHIO, and the listing is within 200 miles of the lat lon of OHIO you will see it in the results.
How is the location page looking? Is it showing the locations? Are you trying to make a city or state specific directory?

When ohio is typed, Google says that is 40.4172871,-82.90712300000001For reference:
Canton reads as 100 miles from there, and Plain city 32 miles.May 6, 2019 at 5:31 pm #484738This reply has been marked as private. -
