Hello, do I need to do something to get the map to display in a certain area – it’s currently focused on Africa for some reason. I do have my default location set in the US.
Shortcode:
[gd_map width=”100%” height=”425px” maptype=”ROADMAP” zoom=”0″ map_type=”directory” post_settings=”1″ post_type=”gd_hs_group”]February 7, 2019 at 11:40 am #467559This reply has been marked as private.February 7, 2019 at 11:46 am #467561One more thing – can you give me the id to change the z-index of the map? My sub-menus are being covered by the map. Also, can I remove the image from the map bubble? Thank you.
February 7, 2019 at 12:57 pm #467578You have set the zoom to 4, and the map will always center on all listings.
Zoom out to see why the center is in Africa.I cannot see any issue with the menu. The sub-menus are on top of the map.
Try this CSS:
.geodir_map_container .leaflet-popup-content-wrapper .leaflet-popup-content .gd-bubble .geodir-bubble_image li, .geodir_map_container .leaflet-popup-content-wrapper .leaflet-popup-content .gd-bubble .geodir-bubble_image img {
height: 40px;
}February 7, 2019 at 4:18 pm #467616Hi, yes I did add the zoom level to 4 because otherwise the markers are teeny tiny.
If you zoom out, you’ll see that most of the markers are in the U. S., there are only two markers in Africa, so I’m not sure why the zoom level focuses there. You should be able to either position where the zoom level occurs or it should be based on your default location or where the bulk of your markers are. This way, if anyone has a worldwide directory, the zoom focus will always be on Africa since this is the forced “center”. Any thoughts on this?
I’ll look at the overlapping issue and report back. Thank you.
February 7, 2019 at 5:51 pm #467629Maps are made to include all pointers and using zoom auto is what works best if markers are scattered in a wide area.
Changing that requires a customization.
Thanks
February 7, 2019 at 8:07 pm #467675Joy, when you edit the directory map options, the advanced options should allow you to enter the slugs for a particular location. I don’t know if that will work but could be worth a try.
Open a new GD > Map element
Select Advanced Properties
Select Map Type -> Directory
Add in the slugs for the location on which you want to center the map
Adjust other options as needed and saveFebruary 7, 2019 at 9:20 pm #467703Hi everyone, thank you for the feedback. @guust – the code worked enough so I could tweak it a bit and have it display to my liking. I’ve checked the sub-menus again, and it seems that it is just getting stuck behind the map when a user a is logged in. If you view the site without logging in, the sub maps are fine. I’ve tried to add z-index to several different options, with no luck. Can you please have a look? Thank you.
@paolo – maybe that could be revisited? This means that if anyone has listings around the world that their maps will automatically center over Africa, which seems a bit odd. Especially in a case like where you cannot select the focus area priority. Alex suggested the advanced settings, which seems to fix this – to an extent.
@ayecode_alex Thanks Alex – this almost works perfectly. If I specify a country and region, it will focus over that area – but it will only show the markers for that specific region. However, I am trying to focus over a region, but allow the users the freedom to move about the map and find other locations as well. Since most of my listings are in the USA it would seem that should be the focus, which is what I’m trying to achieve without disabling all markers beyond the specified region.
Thanks again guys, you’re the best!
February 12, 2019 at 1:34 am #468365Hi again – not sure if this was missed. I’d really like someone to take a look at the map zoom configuration if possible. With the current settings, if anyone has a map with listings worldwide, they cannot focus on an area of say – their home office. They would be forced to zoom in on Africa – even if they don’t even have any locations there. Not sure if this can be tweaked. Thank you.
February 12, 2019 at 9:32 am #468395That is the way it works, we don’t expect that to change.
February 13, 2019 at 1:08 am #468609That’s unfortunate, this seems like a relevant concern – zoom should not be based on Africa. Just my opinion…What file would I look at the edit the zoom position? Since it’s set to the center of the map, I should also be able to edit this to have the alignment adjusted.
Also the issue of the navigation drop down being covered by the map when I’m logged in is still an issue. Can you please let me know what layer I can adjust z-index to fix this? Thank you again.
February 13, 2019 at 1:25 am #468610Zoom is not based on Africa, please read what we write.
The map is centered to be able to accommodate all listings when in auto zoom. Because you have listings all over the world it is zooming there.
If you look at your website, it is zooming on Hawaii because you only have listings in Hawaii.
To get a similar customization, you’d need extra settings and more, this is not something we’l provide support for.
It makes no sense that login/logout influence z-index of menu items. That said, it’s a theme problem and fixes for theme CSS should be asked to the theme author.
Thanks

So doesn’t that mean that if you have listings around the world that the center will be calculated in Africa – or if not Africa as you say, it could be centered in an area in where you possibly have no listings at all?
And it’s not arguing, it’s trying to understand how the function works and to point out a potential issue with the logic that may be overlooked. After all it’s a beta, is it not okay to point out issues? All my previous posts questioned about the zoom being over Africa which I found to be very odd.
