    Hi there,

I posted this question back in 2018 and you mentioned that you were looking into the feasibility. I wanted to see if any progress has been made on the development side.

Will we ever be able to upload a 2x size map icon so that our map icons will look good on retina displays? Any icon that is more detailed than a blob of color looks really horrible on the screen.

    Thank you in advance!

I will ask the developers if there is an update about that.

    Hi Christy,

In GDv2 we have some updates related to map icon size displayed on the map.

Please provide screenshot if it shows bad icon size. You can check one of our text site: https://wpgeo.directory/

    Let us know.

    Regards,
    Kiran

    Hi Kirin and Alex,

Thank you so much for the quick response. I’m not sure what you mean by icon size updates in GDv2 – is this something we can access through the core file, or does it have to be applied through using one of your templates?

I am not using a GD template and am styling the directory on my own. I’ve attached a screenshot of the icons I am using and would like them to be 30px wide but the png files are very blurry at that size.

How would you suggest I load a 60px wide icon and use css to scale it down to 50%?

Thank you! (GD is amazing, and I am so grateful for all of the hard work you guys are putting into it!)

    Hi Christy,

In GDv2 we have some updates related to map icon size displayed on the map.

My comment was on regarding OpenStreetMap, but screenshot shows you are using Google maps. Google map auto adjusts marker icons. For example https://google-developers.appspot.com/maps/documentation/javascript/examples/full/icon-simple) it custom icon with size 20×32 in pixels & here https://google-developers.appspot.com/maps/documentation/javascript/examples/full/marker-simple using 27×43 in pixels.

It is good to keep icons size small(max 50px in width/height) because larger size affect the load time when map has large numbers of markers to load on map.

Please provide us site link so we can look how it displays to us.

    Regards,
    Kiran

Ah ha! Perfect, thank you. I switched to OpenStreetMap and can make my icons resize perfectly. Noted on the max size for load time efficiency, thx!
