Just logged onto WP Admin and the site and both are throwing up error messages re the map and denied access.
Loading the GD section of admin I’m getting the following message as soon as the page loads “Geocode was not successful for the following reason: REQUEST_DENIED”
I (and I assume users of the site) are also receiving this message when you try to perform a search “Search was not successful for the following reason :REQUEST_DENIED”
Earlier it also showed on the site header map “This page can’t load Google Maps correctly.” and this was rectified by updating the API but unsure why the search function is not working still.
It was fine yesterday, nothing has changed manually and I’ve made sure everything is up to date (except the PHP which I’ve yet to do but said this message for a few weeks and not affected the site). I
Thanks

September 20, 2019 at 8:18 am #509317Make sure your Maps key is unrestricted.
Google has new rules. Please visit the key settings page and make sure you have allowed access to all the APIs. There is a new settings change for geocoding APIs specifically.
Also, pelase remove any referrer rules, those will block geocoding.
September 20, 2019 at 8:26 am #509321Hi Alex, thanks for the reply.
No restrictions on the new API for applications or the API itself, all settings show ‘none’.
I can’t see anything about referrers other than on the settings under ‘application restrictions’ but its not checked.
What API is it I require as have only always had the Google Maps JavaScript API which is what I’ve regenerated this morning?
September 20, 2019 at 8:31 am #509322Try adding all the APIs.
Open the key settings and under restrictions make sure to allow all APIs.
Now there are new requirements that you also have to explicitly select them, so you choose them from the list and make sure they are all individually listed as allowed.September 20, 2019 at 8:54 am #509331This reply has been marked as private.September 21, 2019 at 7:04 am #509504This reply has been marked as private.September 21, 2019 at 8:38 am #509513Hi Alex, did as you said so second section API Restrictions shows all API’s checked under restrictions and then listed, entered key on WP admin… same issue, same error messages!
So tried scrubbing everything else i’ve tried to start afresh creating just a new API for the Google Maps Java API on its own (which is all i have ever had i am sure), selected it under API Restrictions, saved new key to WP Admin… still the same problem! IT loads the map fine the first time, then when you test the search function it gets the same error message and then the map won’t load again!
The only other error it shows is that theres no billing set up but pretty sure this is not required if you’re under the quote?
Any more ideas?
September 21, 2019 at 10:37 am #509521No, billing is required.
September 21, 2019 at 4:18 pm #509543Any other ideas? I’ve checked everything is up to date, tried your advice re the API which all seems as per your instructions and still not working. I’ve changed nothing on the site the issue literally just appeared overnight. Last time a similar issue happened due to change on Google it was sorted by the new API but this just seems to be having no effect despite it being correct.
The map and search function is an integral part pof my sites function so if thats not working effectively my site isn’t either!
Any ideas what to try next? Thanks

September 22, 2019 at 6:28 pm #509636Ahhh i see, sorry I misread your earlier replied and read it as ‘no billing is required’!
Will add the payment details and hopefully that’s the issue – if not i’ll let you know!
