    Hi all:

I’ve read all the posts on disappearing maps and how to fix them, but either I’m missing something or something’s broken.

GD is NOT my site home page. When I go to my main GD page, all I see are my listings and a small Google map showing the listing locations. The main map that I used to have at the top of the page is gone. Nothing in my settings seems to control the visibility of the main map.

A remove and reinstall of CD hasn’t helped, so I suspect something amiss in the settings rather than trashed code in GD. I’m using GD 1.4.9.

If it would be helpful, I can PM you with credentials to look at the page.

Yes, please post your URL and admin details in a private reply and we will have a look for you.
The map on the location/GD HOme page is put there with the GD Home Gmap widget. But I think you are talking about the Listings page.

Your directory homepage is at /location
/places is the Listings (category) page.
I added the GD>Gmap-Listings widget to the top section of the GD Listings template.

Let us know if there is anything else.

Oh, here’s a curious one. At the same URL, on the /places page (“Directory” menu item), if I click a “Popular category” that has multiple items (e.g. Restaurants) they all appear on an appropriately sized map. But if I click one that has only a single item (e.g. Photography) I get a map of the whole world – twice around – with the single item shown three times. Now that looks like a coding problem.

Any thoughts? (Besides finding another photographer 🙂 )?

Found a workaround. Set the zoom level to 14 in the map widget, then turn on auto-zoom. For some reason, the auto-zoom code isn’t getting called when there’s only a single item to display.

The same template (GD listing) is used for all Custom Post Types (places), its categories and subcategories. And you have found the solution all by yourself 🙂
