menu width

I have JUST started working with the geo framework and directory plugin
working from top down- everything seems easy except I want the top header 100% width but also want the main menu below it to be 100% width then rest of content 1040 pixels

but when I set the content width to 1040 it also changes the menu width to 1040 I want menu width to be 100% like the header
