Multilanguage options

    Hello,

    I would like to ask which multilanguage plugin would be the most suitable to create a multilanguage WPGeodirectory website with the following basic requirement:

    I specifically would like to avoid to have to create every listing in every language, since I expect taht most customers will be unwilling to do it. I mean that I would like that each listing needs to be created only once in the default language and it is automatically copied to the other languages. The trick is that there will be a few custom fields for the description in other languages, so the customer does need to introduce the standard info fields (name, adress, phone, website, etc.) for each language.

    I am now studying and testing WPML but I can not see if it does this automatic process. I have found this:

    but it does not look as an automatic procedure.

    Any ideas / advice / recommendation?

    Hi,

    GeoDirectory is only compatible with WPML. You have a button to duplicate content of the original post into the translations in the back end, however the process of creating translations is manual and not automatic.

    I don’t know of any plugin that would do what you need.

    Thank you very much for your reply.

    I have seen in the WPML support forums that I am not the only one looking for this feature that unfortunately is not implemented in WPML.

    I realize that it may be quite confusing to implement a multilanguage Geodirectory site with WPML being the only option.

    I have made some testing with GeoDirectory + WPML and I reached some conclusions that I would like to share with you to get your impressions and advice:

    1) Virtual pages such “Add Listing” can not be translated with WPML. Therefore, if translation would be necessary, the only way is via po/mo files or WPML string translation.

    2) The only way an user has to add a listing in several languages is to add the listing in the first language, then switch the site to a second language, add the listing in this second language, switch the site to the next language and so on until completing all the languages.

    3) The only way to simplify the listing addition as I would wish, would be to duplicate the Add Listing page in all languages, so the user adds the listing only once in the default language in the front end, leaving the listing as draft and then the admin duplicates the listing in the other languages and publishes all them in the back end.

    Am I right?

    Hi,

    1) all GD pages can be translated including the add listing page. There are no longer virtual pages. Every translation of labels and default text strings of the theme MUST be translated via translation files (po/mo).

    2) that is correct, then the admin has to link the various translation together from the back end.

    3) This is correct too.

    Thank you very much for your response.

    I think that I do not understand very well the concept of “Virtual Page”. The situation is that, when I open a GD page in the WordPress admin to edit its contents (I mean to translate them), nothing appears. Therefore, I understand that its contents are, as you say, labels and default text strings that can be translated only via po/mo files. Is this assumption correct?

    A question left: I tested the situation 2 as an User and, as I was expecting, the GD Checkout page appears after introducing the listing in each language, so I have to make a payment for each language. Is there some other way to pay only once for a multilanguage listing?

    For question number 1 your assumption is correct. The page is using a template file, not content from the database. So it can only be translated via po file.

    I’m not sure I follow what you mean in question 2. Please provide a URL and both admin and a user’s credentials, so that I have a look directly.

    Hi,

    that is the way it works. You can’t have a cumulative check out for multilingual listings. Each submission is treated separately.

    In addition, the admin must create the link between the various translations from the back end. GD doesn’t create the link between translations automatically.

    I was afraid that would be your answer. Really not very practical, is not it? Unfortunately, WordPress multilanguage is one of its weakest points.

    Hopefully I will find some way to make it practical and simpler.
