Here is what I am looking for:

    For example, http://aprius.com/wp/places/united-states/texas/dallas
    shows listings for Dallas

    http://aprius.com/wp/places/united-states/texas/plano
Shows no nearby listings in Dallas. This city is in the database but there is no listing in the city. How can I make cities without listings show listings of nearby locations just outside the city?

    Thanks!

That is not possible: listings are in the requested city or they are not.
If people want to see all listings in Dallas and around Dallas, then they need to visit
    aprius.com/wp/places/united-states/texas/

Or they can use the search function and search NEAR (the center of) Dallas, and then they will get the listings within your set area around that location.

I suggest you add the location switcher to your menu too:

    Hello Guust,

Are you saying that this cannot be customized by a coder?

It thought you said it could here: https://wpgeodirectory.com/support/topic/features/

I understand this is not a standard feature but I needit implemented by a coder.

    Thanks

    Hi,

I’ve ask Stiofan several times to look into a viable option to do this and it is not possible. Not without having such heavy queries that any website using them would require too much server power to be sustainable.

    Thanks

no at the moment that is not an option.

If you browse listing in Chesterfield, it only shows listings which address is in Chesterfield.

If you set your position in CHesterfield and browse search for listing near you in a big enough radius it will include also listings from near by locations.

    Thanks

For nearby listings why don’t we use the same type of query that we use for a search like this – using the lat/lon of the location in question?

    https://www.rinktime.com/?geodir_search=1&stype=gd_place&s=+&snear=anaheim+ca&sgeo_lat=33.8352932&sgeo_lon=-117.91450359999999

Looking at query analyzer, the queries are fairly instantaneous.

Another way to do it – and how we did it with our old site was to create a separate table which held the relationships with other nearby listings. We might be able to do the same thing with the meta table. When a new listing was added, it would populate the data with the listing id’s that were within x m/km’s of it. Then you just hit the relation table to list which listings are nearby – rather than doing an exhaustive lat/lon search – which isn’t really all that bad.
