I have been pulling my hair out (what little I have left of a once great hair civilization…) trying to import places with a single image .jpg per each and have a featured image appear to no avail.
I tried adding :: and /// to the single filename (and any variations/combinations I could think of) also to no avail.
Tried using FTP (though I know it isn’t recommended), also to no avail.
In fact, the entire section where the featured listing appears in the dummy listings doesn’t appear on the imported listings, but the place attachments section which is underneath the featured listing section in the dummy listings does appear with the imported image in it.
Per the import suggestions I gave up on my own original import file and downloaded the 30 dummy listings.
I deleted all but 5.
I deleted the post_id, renamed the listings as follows (for easy recognition):
Aalexander Inn
Aaudacious Freedom
Bbest Western Center City Hotel
Bbuddakan
Cchestnut Hill HotelI named the .jpg files to be uploaded in a similar modified fashion (so I could easily recognize them in the gallery):
0-1-A-A-A-Assisted-Living-Wellington-1337-Pinet.jpg
0-Assisted-Living-At-The-Inn-3270-Lake.jpg
0-Assisted-Living-Made-Simple-629-N-Dixi.jpg
0-Country-Club-Estates-803-Sw-Cou.jpg
0-A-Loving-Place-25-W-26th.jpgAnd, still no featured image.
I’ve been using LibreOffice, saying the special incantation, singing Kumbaya…
All to no avail…
I’m using the latest versions of “everything” and using Supreme Directory.
(And, this is a fresh install of GD for exactly this purpose so I couldn’t blame modifications made to themes, etc.)
The NoFeatureImage10.png pic is showing the featured image does appear for existing dummy listings.
Thank you, in advance, for the help.

While doing some additional experiments I did happen upon this on the status page:
“Add listing page: Page does not contain the shortcode.”
I don’t know if this is in any way related to the featured image problem (I totally doubt it is since listings are being created and not by using the add listing page).
But, if nothing else, it probably alerts me to another potential problem I might have down the road.
BTW, I have multiple backups of this non-production site (it’s live, but it isn’t as if any of the data matters and we don’t have any paying customers as yet.)
Thank you, Kor.

January 24, 2020 at 2:36 pm #527270Hello,
we are currently looking at different ways to improve the import process, but, for now, when you import you can use a remote image with a URL in order to import an image and have it set as a featured image. For example https://somesite.com/images/my-listing-image.jpeg instead of my-listing-image.jpeg
Images specified with a URL will be imported directly during the import process and do not need to be loaded to wp-content via FTP.
The developer working on this is out today but he will post an update here next week if there is another workaround coming soon.
About the add-listing page, yes, it should contain the GD Add Listing shortcode.
January 24, 2020 at 3:13 pm #527275Thank you for the reply, Alex.
Unfortunately, I tried using remote images to no avail, as well.
In fact, I tried it once again in the last hour or so.
But, thinking about it, what I did was changed the URL of the first test image to this:
From this:
00-1-A-A-A-Assisted-Living-Wellington-1337-Pinet.jpg
And, that image was not uploaded, first, but uploaded after the CSV import had taken place.
I will try the reverse right now (uploading the images to the what will be the remote URL in the import CSV, first, and then running the import file, second).
I’ll keep you posted.
Thank you,
Duane
January 24, 2020 at 3:32 pm #527276Woo-Hoo!
We have a winner!
By uploading the images, first, and uploading the import file, second, the featured images appeared INSTANTLY!
Wow!
If this was back in my drinking days (even considering it is only 10:25AM!) I would have a giant honkin’ Dewar’s on the rocks (or 2 or 3…)!!!
So, as far as I am concerned, feel free to mark this ticket closed as this “upload images, first, upload CSV, second” method works just fine for me.
Thank you, and have a great weekend, Alex.
(If you want a guinea pig for import-related stuff, keep me in mind. I’d be happy to help.)
January 25, 2020 at 12:19 pm #527357Never being happy to leave well enough alone, I decided to violate the GD cardinal rule against FTPing images to the site.
I restored the backup I had made prior to the latest successful addition of 10 new images to the image library followed by the importing of the CSV listings datafile.
I verified the places and images I had previously added to the library and the listings which had been imported were gone.
Using Filezilla I FTP’d the 10 image files to the /wp-content/uploads/2020/01 folder and followed with the import of the CSV file.
Voila!
The listings, the images and the featured images all showed up perfectly.
Hope this helps someone else with similar featured images problems.
January 27, 2020 at 10:18 am #527480Good to know that Duane, Thanks for sharing it.
We are working on image import process related issues. the process will be much smoother ahead.
